Art Knives? Or Not?

I think we can be guilty of over analysing the custom knife world. Art, functional art, hand tool, handmade, custom ...... I am not really bothered about the name we choose to assign - I buy it because I connect with it on some level, I don't need it. By some definitions then all my knives could be art.

I feel much the same.

Not task that to insert a blade in... di a statuetta is Art Knife. It will be Art but for being Art Knife it wants a connection to us between blade and the rest.

Buddy, thanks for posting the Tia Goo examples as I was becoming familiar with just his more traditional pieces.

I don't particularly care for most "High Art" pieces as at first glance the knife has to be predominately recognizable as a knife to draw my interest.

I do, however appreciate the fact that many do. And I welcome the "High Art" maker and collector as they bring a new culture, awareness and validity to the customs industry.

IMO, there are many styles of knives that will fit into the "Art Knife" category.
Here's an extraordinary example:

Would this qualify as a "folk art knife" ?;)
