As of this morning I've lost 50 lbs.

:) absolutely, Life is good.

My propensity to damage my person fell off dramatically 15 years ago when I stopped drinking alcohol and doing recreational drugs. I still thank and bless the cop who arrested me for DUI that last night of my old life.

Funny, my rate of injury went down when I quit drinking, too (May of 1987). I don't want to say I drank a lot, but I think Scotland suffered a severe economic depression, and the Jonnie Walker distillery had to lay off half its workforce. Never really was into drugs, and fortunately I never got a DUI (not that I shouldn't have). I just took a hard look at myself one day, and said "ok, that's it; this is out of hand." I turned myself in to a recovery program over at the VA hospital, went through the course, and I've been sober ever since (22 years, so far).

Congrats! Have you ever considered trying a low carb diet? It's neat once you realize insulin is what makes you fatter and hungrier! The people cutting out the white flower and sugar are on the right direction! Good on you for that. Well, don't be scared of animal fat and good luck on the rest of your journey!

Oh yes, and it's healthy! I've been eating this way for over 2 years and I feel great! Meat is the key! :D:thumbup:

Good deal, dude! Congratulations on dropping the 50; it looks like you've treated yourself to an excellent reward as well.

Good job man. Back in August, I found out I had lost 20lbs. Last week, I found out I had gained 10lbs. I need to lose at least a solid hunsky. Been trying all kinds of ways, doctor said he'll give me until January, then its lapband.

Okay, you guys are my motivation.

I'm just over 250 and was down to 225 3 years ago. I really need to get rid of 30-40 lbs. 6'1", never been below 205 since I joined the Army back in 82. Gonna have to make a change to the lifestyle...

right on man.. congrats... i need to get my butt in gear and get back in shape...:(

Way to go Hushnel !! Keep on it. I bet you feel a lot better !

I'm 47, and I've lost 37 since Jan. this year. 242 down to 205. My goal is 170, so still a ways to go. Atkins is my lifestyle choice and it's working great.

Now I can actually see my belt buckle ( and my sheath knife) :D

Keep up the good work.

Pete.

I went on Atkins a few years back, I lost 45lbs very quickly and felt good. but I went back to my old ways. Pasta and bread are my problem. Good Luck to all fighting this weight battle.

Huh. I'm down 25 now, sitting at 210. I don't so much have a target weight right now as a target size. The exercise I've been doing has definitely added a bunch of muscle. But I still have a belly, and that's just gotta go.

Hushnel- what are you doing for yourself? Obviously you are succeeding!

Congrats!
My hubby and I are at it as well. We basically reduced calorie intake and closely watch fat intake. I've started excercising before I started the diet to make excercise a habit so I keep at it when dieting bad mood hits me ...

I've been sober ever since (22 years, so far).
Fantastic, it has changed my life being sober and drug free. The life I had before was mostly pathetic, life is good.

Congrats! Have you ever considered trying a low carb diet?
Not exactly, I am conscious of carbs and have severely limited them. I’ve never really like overly processed grains. I do use unbleached white flour as a base for multi grained breads but I haven’t done any bread baking since February. That may be the hardest, I really love my home baked bread and I’m particularly partial to sourdough and the European style black breads like pumpernickel and the heartier coarse ryes.

You do what you must, I’m scared to death of drugs and surgical procedures. I started this well before I went in for the Mother of All Physicals, I didn’t want the Doc. to prescribe any drugs. Good luck SHS.

Mostly I’m just watching what I eat and over the last few months I have been ramping up my activity. Because of the broken bones I mentioned above and a permanent partial paralysis of my right arm I’m leery of weight lifting.

Again thanks for the encouragement, and for those of us that are working towards this type of goal and considering doing so, good luck and keep at it.

Some times as I read these pages of this sub forum I get to feeling like I’m some kind of arm chair quarter back living life vicariously through those of us that are spending real time in the wilderness.

Three years until I retire, I’ve been working toward this my whole life, I’ve put off things I didn’t have the time to do, and now as this date approaches I want to be up to it. I mean retire from my day job, doing leather work, building guitars, ukulele and banjos, wood work and tons of other stuff I’ve learned in life and the tools I’ve been acquiring to do them and getting back into a working band will fill my time and bring in the extra cash.

I do manage to do a decent bit of camping, I get out to the Everglades three or four times a year, I spend time on the sea and canoeing the rivers and springs of central Florida. I just want nature and wilderness adventures, hunting and fishing, camping, panning and exploring to be a bigger part of my life and respect this amazing creation of God’s enough to prepare myself for it.

Huge congratulations. I also lost a lot of weight a few years back. My health basically forced me into changing how i live and the weight loss followed. you must feel great about it. Losing weight is damn hard. To lose that much is kick ass. Did it slip up on you? I know it did with me. I didn't really "see" it until i had lost almost 80-85% of the weight i would lose. That still freaks me out. Perception is very odd.

Yes, it has happened so slowly that I don't really see it. Others do and keep telling me, the scales don't lie :)

That's serious weight loss. I've dropped about 20 in the last three months and that has been difficult to say the least. Nice job.
