Thanks Jumpin Jimmy!
I want to see you on a belt-grinder and a buffer next. ;)

Pretty cool vid Ankerson, I always thought you just went one way when sharpening. But i noticed you were going back and forth on the edge pro.
It looks fairly easy though once you get the drill down. Thanks now i know how the system works better. ;)

Yes, it's really pretty simple once you get the hang of it. :)

I noticed that same thing. All technique of sharpening went out the window for me because I know the results you get Jim, so I can't argue with that. Very nice! I might have to grab one of those for when I sharpen v grinds.

That's one of the reasons it's so fast, the water stones cut pretty fast too. :D

You should see how fast it hogs off metal with the 120 grit silicone carbide stone.

I'm hardly an expert, having never even seen an edgepro in person, but do you think you might deep dish the stones a little bit more than you have to by taking shallow strokes instead of using the full length of them? Also, are you not able to sharpen the tip of a tanto with an edgepro? I may have missed it, but I didn't see you sharpen the actual tanto part of the blade?

Cool videos, interesting to see how the system works. I still think a belt grinder is faster though :D

I'm going to be doing a comparison sharpening of the edge pro vs some DMT diamond stones freehand coming up. An edge pro is landing in my lap for free soon, so we'll see.

I was doing a quick and dirty job because of the video, I can sharpen the tanto point, but I didn't show it because it's a whole different setup, you have to do them separately. ;)

Actually 230, it sounds like you already understand the most dangerous part of an edgepro. You really have to keep the stones flat. If you have DMT stones then they are perfect for keeping them flat. If you use only a section of the stone to sharpen it will create an uneven stone. Then if you unintentionally go past the section of the stone you have been keeping to it will change the angle of your edge. Then when you move to the next "flat" stone you may be missing the actual edge. I don't have my edgepro anymore but when I did I sharpened A LOT of knives with it. That was the most annoying part. And since the stones do cut so fast that means they wear fast;) Mainly with the 120 but your better off to raise a burr at a higher grit anyhow from what I found with the system. Just my 2 cents:)

The DMT stones cut FAST! You will like them but i don't think you will like any of this as much as the belt sander. I know I don't.

Okay, off to watch your vids now Ank! Thanks for making them:thumbup:

I had a feeling you had to do the point seperately and just weren't showing it for video length.

How different is the set up for the tanto? It looks like it'd be hard with the guide.

Awesome Jim! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Can't wait to send you my MOFBM to sharpen. After you're done with it I could probably chop down a tree with a single blow. ;)

I kind of figured that about the edgepro stones hollowing out.

The reason I got the DMT diamond stones and the edge pro is I do a lot of sharpening for people for $$, and a lot of people dont like convex edges. I also don't like putting other peoples knives to a grinder, so if I sharpen a knife for someone, it's freehand, and at the most, polished on a paper wheel.

I only put family and friend's knives to the belt sander...that way I know they won't kill me when I mess up:eek::D

Same here! The only time i'll use a belt sander for someone else is if it's a dull machete, i'm not freehanding that!

The angle is always different on the tanto point, it's really easy to do though, just reset the angle and and adjust the guide a little.

THanks man. :D

They don't hollow out that fast really, the main ones are the 120, 220, and 320 stones, the 600, and 1000 grits don't wear hardly at all.

I use Silicone carbide on glass to flatten them out once they start to wear, I keep my stones very flat.

All water Stones Wear out and or dish over time, but then oil stones do too.

Hey Ank, Watching the videos now. I couldn't hear, do you use the polishing tapes dry or wet?

Have you ever tried soapy water? I found it worked a lot better. My speakers SUCK!:D

Just a drop of soap in a bottle of water is enough to get it to stick to the tapes.
