ASH-1 Gone Commando

I just love DCBB and SATIN knives. Plain and simple. Nothing wrong with coatings. And if INFI didn't have such good corrosion resistance I'd leave the coating on. However, it's time to get nekkid.

(1) Here are some shots of my ASH-1 with some coating wear. But nothing major.

(2) Next, here is the blade coated with the stripper I used. Not the best but it worked well enough. I still had to do some scraping to get all the coating off.

(3) Here are some shots of the coating gone. NO DIMPLES! :D God this thing is smooth.

(4) Finally here are some shots after the scotch-brite treatment I always use.

Still a little more work to do here and there. This would have been much easier if I had taken the handles off. But I am very pleased with the out come. I'll probably do a little more work but not much because I'm going to beat on it later tonight any way. This be a USER!

that looks great ham solo will do mine that way once i wear the gray finish a little more thanks for posting

When I get home, or some time this weekend, I'll do a quick vid to demonstrate the process I used to to this for those that are interested. Very simple to do. Which is a plus in my book. :D

Is it me, or did Tyr take on this strange "Ham Solo" character AFTER he got his video camera? He really seems to like taping himself. As long as there's INFI or SR-101 in the film I think we're safe. Somebody pass the

Nah! I do not mind doing some tests where I am out of frame but do not really like showing my face on video. You never know where it will end up.:p

Plus, I was involved in making and filming approx. 8 combatives videos a few years back. So I got used to the camera. Not to mention that I am on stage, in a sense, every day for my students. 8th graders need a lot to keep entertained.

Anyway, I thought it would be less work to just show what I did in a quick vid then to take pics and have to add annotations for every picture. It's Friday so I is feelin' lazy. :D

Those of you that do this are going to love it. ;)

Oh, don't get the wrong impression. Your vids are excellent. I can't wait to see this one. I have a few blades on which I would like to try this technique. Can't wait to see it.

Jerry Needs to Give you comission Tyrkon, I'm ordering another ASH (#6) after seeing yours pics. :D Thanks a lot Bro.

FYI: G-10 owners be careful. I noticed that the G-10 became soft where the stripper touched it. Just a very thin layer. I could scratch it off with my finger nail. It is possible that it was just dirt from so much use this week and not the G-10 at all. Has anyone else run into this with G-10?

Anyway, I just went over the G-10 with the scotch-brite quickly then oiled it up and it looked perfectly new.

I have never had this issue with micarta.

Like I said, it is very possible that it was just dirt and not G-10 but I wanted to caution you guys just in case. ;)

Hey TL...

Is the logo gone after you buffed it out with the scotch-brite???

And... I've never stripped a blade w/ G-10, so I can't help ya there.
Stripping around Micarta has never been a problem for me though.

Nope. It's still there. :D Harder to see on the satin as compared to the OD. I was careful not to do too much buffing on it though. ;) I'll try to post some pics later when I get home.

Thanks Bro...

And thanks for taking extra pics later.

Looking good Bro'

Do you also have that feeling that after modding a knife it's more your knife than before, Or is that just me??

I agree 100 percent. After putting your own personal tounc on a knife you OWN it.:thumbup:

Your ASH1 looks sharp (pun intended). Congratulations! I have heard the term 'competition' grade used. Any one know the chance of seeing it as an option in the future?
