Here's a big problem we have in Illinois. Asian carp. I thought I would post this for anyone planning a fishing trip on the Illinois River this year. Pay attention at 2:40 to see why you need to be cautious in a boat.
I have been hit by a 20 pound carp while boating (at slow speed) and it wasn't very nice.

My Filipino grandma would be in HOG heaven! But on a more serious note...those things are everywhere  .

We do have a real issue with those in IL. There like the Humbold squids in the ocean, they can survive anywhere as long as theirs nothing to kill them off.

Funny semi-related story...my dad was fishing years ago with a friend of his and a good sized spring salmon that had been following their lure as they reeled it in jumped into their boat! Sadly this was the era before everyone had a digital camera on them so the only evidence was consumed shortly afterward.

i've had a pinkie jump into the boat before as well.

man, i really need to take a trip down to illinois with a fishing road some day. i love fishing carp. i'd imagine with numbers like that there would be no real catch limit. kinda reminds me of the picture southerncross put up with all the carp he caught down in aussie.

thanks for the link to the cool video. you may see me in illinois in the near future : )

They are algae eaters and will not bite, though they can be snagged rather easily.

Damn! Ecosystems being disrupted by introduced species is terrible, but I was thinking "well at least the fishing would be good!"

Oh man i wish i lived closer. I would be cooking them right there on the spot . Enough to feed ya all lol. You guys would be asking for more trust me.
Done right they taste realy good even if they got lots of bones.. Bring some Russian Korean and Filipino and some British bloks i know and there would be nothing left in there in less then a month.

Illinois has set up some electric countermeasures to keep them from getting to Lake Michigan, but it is only a matter of time before somebody catches a bunch of them and sets them loose in the big water.
