There are not-a-few folks who actually set up boats for archery fishing..of these carp IN THE AIR.

sounds like i should wait for them to fly up in the air then blast em with a 12 gauge. :D

sounds like it could make for some decent target practice :)

i've had a pinkie jump into the boat before as well.

man, i really need to take a trip down to illinois with a fishing road some day. i love fishing carp. i'd imagine with numbers like that there would be no real catch limit. kinda reminds me of the picture southerncross put up with all the carp he caught down in aussie.

thanks for the link to the cool video. you may see me in illinois in the near future : )

you and me both! i have a 32 foot carbon fiber carp fishing pole, its slayed a few at Deer Lake BBY

We have the same problem here.

I'm doing my best to get rid of as many as possible from my local waterway..

But unfortunately they are prolific breeders (a large female is capable of releasing up to 10,000 eggs).

With a bit of luck, the male only offspring program will see an end to these pests.

Kind regards
Mick

seem to remember asking about that...some problems with the folks who live on the bank of the river not wanting random gunfire shot in their direction. Suspect it is illegal.

From the 08 Fishing Regulation guide:

SPEARING/BOW AND ARROW FISHING
Carp, carpsuckers, buffalo, sucker, gar
(except alligator gar), and bowfin may be
taken with spear or gig, pitchfork, underwater
spear gun, bow and arrow or archery device.
Spearing/bow and arrow fishing is not permitted
in waters listed in Site Specific
Regulations as “2 Pole and Line Fishing Only”
(except as listed by notation).

It looks like you can on the Illinois river south of Starved Rock where the largest schools of these carp tend to be found. Not sure about the Mississippi River.

We club every one that lands in any of our groups boats over the head and throw them on shore when we can. Hack the heads off for the critters to enjoy over night.
