Asians and knives, is it just me or just coincidental

So after recently picking up the hobby, participating on forums, youtube videos, buying from sellers, I noticed that there are a lot of Asians in the knife community and not like "made in china knives either." I'm Asian, so I found it weird that so many other Asians were interested in knives too, since I grew up in northern NH where most of the folks are white, I assumed (racist) that most people who were into knives were white. In fact, the last two knives I bought were from Asian knife collectors.

Again is this all just a big coincidence or is there some Asian knife community that I don't know about? :x

I get a HUGE amount of hits on my website from China and Japan. Second only to Russia from International views.

Good interest, great people.

There is as much a "blade" culture in Asia's history as there is a "gun" culture in America's....

it's no occident.

We tend to see them as agricultural tools.

I love filipino blades and being a Malaysian i get to experience different blade cultures from a diversity here.
It's the rich history of it that caught me hard.

Thank you Bladeforums.

Not quite knives, but the last three people I sold to or bought stuff from on gunbroker and gun forums were Asian. I've only dealt with one Asian on knife related forums thus far.

Hey, a bunch of Filipinos just like me in here, didn't know that!
My dad took with him a handmade machete from the Philippines when he went to America.
He really loves it and will refuse any and all offers to use something else for machete work.
I'm surprised more people don't know more about the Asian knife community, anyone who's heard of SRM and the bunch
maybe knows about the Asian forums that discuss them.

Half Japanese here. I hadn't noticed this, but now that you mention it, my friends that do carry knives are also Asian. There are a lot of ties to Asia in the knife industry, like with the big three American companies. Kershaw is Japanese-owned, Spyderco got famous with Japanese-made knives, and Benchmade was started with knives based on a Filipino design and the CEO is of Filipino descent.

BTW, if you encounter someone who calls himself "Liu Kang," or any of his other names, don't buy from him. He'll rip you off; he gives us a bad name.

Another Filipino here, and yup, quite a bit of my relatives carry knives. My dad has a machete that he brought back from the Philippines over 20 years ago, still going strong.
