Asians and knives, is it just me or just coincidental

Interesting observation not a racist one though :)

There are some sociotypes that we can pin on races and ethnicity. I can say I believe that Caucasians are probably more inclined to be knife collectors. Like everything though, not exclusively.

Interesting....my wife is from the Philippines and grew up there, and none of her immediate family is terribly interested in knives. Some of her cousins are, though.

My favorite knifemaker is Pinoy - Ray Laconico.

Ray is pinoy? No wonder he's awesome. :D

im indian (like the kind from the middle of asia) but i just find knives to be awesome. nothing cultural or martial arts or whatever was going on p there^. just fascination.

I"m half Japanese, a quarter Chinese, and a quarter Scottish. My dad and grandfather (the Chinese side) carried small Buck knives. They loved to tinker and work with their hands. The Japanese side never carried knives. They were predominantly office types.

Perhaps carrying a knife has more to do with vocation than race.

I don't have any Asian friends who carry knives, but that's pretty cool! I assumed like you that it was mostly white people into knives

I think I'm turning Japanese...... ;)

I'm Filipino and my birth certificate states "mulatto".
Seriously? Isn't that considered a racial slur, by most people? In what state was your birth certificate issued, and if you don't mind the question, when?

When I was in high school, I knew a lot of Korean kids whose parents were immigrants. They didn't, as a group, carry knives in particular, but most of the boys did carry some sort of weapon. Lots of knucks, padlocks, a few knives here and there...

Me, I'm a drunken viking (German/Estonian/Irish), so I usually have a stein of mead and a dagger. ;)

I was born way before the Civil Rights Movement. Back then, being called a mulatto was one of the better things we coulda been called. Ever been anywhere that you were not served while people of a lighter persuasion did or get seated near the back door? That's how things were when I was a kid. Maybe that's one more reason we carried knives. This was in Stockton, CA. In Stockton, we didn't venture any further north than Harding Way when I was a child.

My father was born and raised in Stockton. I don't know if you are a gun nut or if you have gun nut friends but my grandfather (John E. Freeman) made guns and owned a gun shop. He was known as the best gunsmith in in the San Joaquin valley.

Man, it is a small world. I left Stockton in the late '70's. The only gun shop I remember was on Main St. but there were a couple other ones as well up on Pacific Ave. I may have known your dad or at least familiar with where he lived. Do you know where your Grandad's shop was?

Freeman's Guns was on Pacific. My dad was Richard Freeman and his older brother was James Freeman. I know my dad was pals with a Chinese guy named Sammy Toy who's parents owned a laundromat.
