Asians and knives, is it just me or just coincidental

I'm Chinese and stuck in New York City with sheeple that get scared at any sharp metal. Probably it all starts with watching all those sword oriented cartoons where the hero is always the one with the sword.

Definitely a lot more Fil-Ams on here than I thought! :) Even little kids carry knives in the Philippines!

Also I have a handmade Filipino machete that was given to my dad upon marrying my mom. The wooden handle is carved to look like a bird claw holding a skull. Will snap a pic.

Thanks, I would love to see that! Where is your mom from?

Filipinos are a tribal & head-hunting culture. Individual tribes waged war and took heads. Most of our martial arts are blade related. We have so many variations of machetes, bolos and swords. It's ridiculous.

I think its definitely in our blood to like knives.

I'm a Filipino. Grew up in Hawaii and Guam. Used bolos and machetes almost daily to keep the boonies at bay. My edc is a Spyderco Endura 4.

I'm U.S.-born Japanese, and have always carried a knife. My dad always carried a knife, but it had nothing at all to do with being Asian. He and all his brothers grew up on a farm, and he worked outdoors his whole life, so he had many hard-used pocketknives and a beat-up Buck 110. I've carried some type of knife(s) since the 1970s. But I have not found that other Asians (that I know) carry knives. Then again, I don't ask if they carry, either. I would guess that percentage-wise, there's not much difference in carry numbers than other groups, though there are more Asians worldwide than other groups.

I would note that Filipino, Malaysian, etc., ARE Asian. Asia includes from Indonesia to most of Russia and what we call the Middle East to the Mediterranean, including Israel and Turkey...and everything in-between. It's a fallacy to say that only Chinese, Japanese and Koreans are Asians. That's tantamount to saying that French, Germans and Swiss are Europeans, but Irish, Icelandic, and Sicilians are not.
