One of my fondest memories from Blade Show 2001 is when our Production Director, Bobby Branton, said to the crowd during the Knife/Tomahawk Throwing and CQB Seminar...

"...AND WE HAVE A REAL-LIVE RANGER HERE RIGHT FROM THE RANGER TRAINING BRIGADE AT FORT BENNING..." In typical fashion, Bobby worked the crowd and had everyone clutching their stomachs with his smooth Southern humor.

After that remark, the "quiet professional" was the hit of the show, fielding dozens of questions from all kinds of folks walking up to him asking about Ranger School, Tomahawks in the Army, Equipment, Training, Etc. We were so impressed with him, we hired him!

Well...the fact is, Staff Sergeant Justin Gingrich is a real-live, active duty Ranger, stationed at 4th Battalion, Ranger Training Brigade. Prior to 4th Bat., he served with the famous 3rd Ranger Battalion. He's out this November, after 9 years of service to our country.

The American Tomahawk Company has learned a great deal about the US Soldier's equipment, training, and life in the field. Justin's extensive knowledge base and training has been a wonderful resource for us.

Well...we want to share it. So, ask him whatever you want about what's going on with the finest Army in the world, equipment, training, real-life experiences, or any other related topics you wish. He will respond on this thread. Please don't raise the Beret issue here though if you know about it...seriously. This is not the place. ;)

Let's try to keep it on he top for a while for fun too!

So...FIRE AT WILL!!!

1.) Can Rangers swim? (a poke brother)

2.) Too what extent do Rangers receive training for operations in Maritime Environments? Helocast only, combat swimmer school, would this be an individual soldiers specialty attached to a unit, simple patroling in waterways, what is it man? (serious question)

3.) How's the Harley runnin'?

4.) How's the tennis elbow, oops! I mean throttle carpel tunnel wrist?

Justin,
I want a roll of that Ranger tape that you used to seal up the shoe box that you used to send my knife back to the ATC /AKC shop.
That stuff is RANGER TOUGH. Hi Frank. Long time no hear:p :p :p

Bobby

Ok here is the deal. All Rangers can swim it is a requirement. As far as Maratime operations go we patrol waterways, most of the men in the platoon would be scout swimmers, use Zodiacs, Helocasts, hitch a ride with the Navy we are set up for just about any situation.

The Harley is running great I just wish I had more time to ride. I think I got all of your questions answered. If not just yell and I will try again.

I had a Harley once. Well really three but not all at once. Now to the important question. Which Harley do you have? What have you modified? Does Fort Benning have a helmet law?

Andy this is staying away from the Beret question!!! But since I have no idea about the beret issue someone e-mail me privaty:D

I have a 99 Softail Custom. I have change almost everything but the paint. From the bars and braided cables, rocker box covers, pegs, rear swing arm cover, calipur covers, spoons, grips, pipes, jet kit and a bunch of other nice and shiney pieces. Unfortunately yes Georgia does have a helmet law.:p

wow that sounds like an amazing ride.
My wife wants us to get another Harley. When that happens I could see a road trip to Columbus GA in my future. ;) :D :D

Thanks for the reply.

Thank you for answering my questions. I was curious to what extent you guys can operate in maritime and riverine AO's.

Congratulations on your "now official" arrival at ATC.

Keep a lid on Andy's big coconut please.

RLTW (Now what could that possibly mean Andy?)

Hey Ranger Gingrich!

Is it true the Rangers need more female soldiers? I heard they would make great Rangers! But seriously, I hope you are enjoying the shoulder sheath. Let me know when you need some more and I'll knock them out faster than you can say hoo-ah! (I never said that in the army)

No the women are doing just fine in the Navy and Airforce. We are doing just fine with out them.:p Thanks for the sheath I am getting alot of good use out of it. When I break this one I will deffinetly be on the phone ordering another one.:D

Uhhhh.....just so our customers know, the sheaths don't break and never have to date....Justin is just razzing Robert in retort...it's that whole military branch competitive thing goin' on here a bit, though Robert was a Marine AND a Soldier, but likes to refer to himself as a Marine.

I'm starting to regret that I wrote "ASK....anything you want":)

Let's try to keep it related to topics where Justin isn't getting his horns broken every ten minutes. :D

Andy is right the sheath won't break unless I ran the sheath over with a Bradley or droped it out of a c-130 on an Airfield assualt from about 1200 feet. The sheath is one of the best products that I have encountered in my military service. Even if it is made by a Marine. :D

Now let's see, Ranger Justin, which Army Value does the next generation hawk represent?

(I'd consult my own card but it tragically found it's way onto a pile of C-4 before I got out) what a shame!:D

Well lets see. I wish I could consult my card but I never recieved one. Even if I had mine probably would have found its way to a block of C-4 as well. Besides I never understood why I would need to cary a card to remind me of my values. I have the Ranger Creed in my heart and mind for that. RLTW!

OK.....gotta ask:

How much fun is it to shoot/destroy and blow things up? After a long day at the office, it's on my mind....and that IS your day at the office!

Rock on! They could have bought tomahawks for every joe in the Army for the money they spent on that propaganda.

I have to admit the days when we get to go to the range and shoot or go to the demo range and blow stuff up are some of my favorite days. It is one of those things that I enjoy so much sometimes I found myself saying " I can't believe I get paid to do this stuff." Next to the boys in my squad I will miss those days most when I get out of the Army.

Ranger Justin -

My Sapper Tab's batteries are running low and since I heard they were interchangeable with the ones found in the Ranger Tab, I need to know what their NSN is so my supply pogues can order more up. Also, if you could send a case of anti-snivel cream, it would be much appreciated. And a box of canopy lights. And some grid squares. And a can of squelch. And some chem light batteries. And some riser grease.

As you can tell, we're in desperate need for a resupply around here.
