"Ask Ranger Gingrich!!!" (just about anything you want )

I have a couple, if you wouldnt mind. Are there any Ranger units in the reserves? Would that vary by state? Between the basic, ranger, airborne and other schools, how long is a typical ranger in training alone? What is the average attrition rate (hostile) of an average unit? Are Rangers simply advanced bullet stoppers, or could they be qualified as SF? What are the graduation rates of Rangers (total entering training vs. Total finishing, even if not assigned to a Ranger unit). Sorry for so many at once, this was a path I WAS debating on taking. Thanks, NW

Ok Northwind I will do my best to answer all of your questions. As for Ranger Units in the Reserve there are none that I know of. As for time in training it depends on if you will be assigned to a Ranger Unit or to the regular army and attend Ranger School. IF you are going to a Ranger Unit you can expect about 6 months of training just to get there and then you will have a lot more training to go through once you get there. Really in a Ranger unit your training never stops. As for attrition rate(hostile) I would assume by that you mean conflict or war time. The best example I can give is Somalia. We took 6 KIA's to around 1000 Somalians that were killed. As for the advance bullet stoppers or could they qualify as SF. There is a big misconception in the civilian world that SF is more than they really are. In todays army there focus has shifted to more of a train the trainer what I mean by that is that they are trained to teach forgeign armys or people how to fight amongst other things. So the answer is no the Rangers are not advanced bullet stoppers. They are a highly trained and deadly force who works closely with other SOCOM units and joint services. As for graduation rates those that enter RIP ( Ranger Indoctrination Program) wich you have to graduate from to get in to a Ranger unit it is about 10%. As for Ranger School the most recent statistics I saw were some where around 15% graduation rate. If you have any additonal questions feal free to ask. I hope that I have helped and good luck in what ever path you choose.
