Well it is hard to compare the tomahawk with anything else that the soldier currently has is his basic load. The reason I say that is because there is nothing like it in the basic load. There are countless situations where it would be and currently is needed. It would fill a big hole in the soldiers basic load and solve a lot of problems for soldiers in the field. Some of the problems that the tomahawk would help fix are as follows; clearing firing lanes, digging fighting positions, clearing vegitation while walking point, demo, hand to hand combat and countless other uses in the field.
As for how would it rank with some of the other "high speed" items that SOCOM is currently using. Personally I think it would be one of the best products they would and could have. For the following reasons; it is almost idestructable, it will work in any environment cold wet muddy it doesn't affect the performance, it takes minimal training to use and to be affective with the hawk, also it doesn't require batteries I know that some of you are laughing at the last comment but when you are talking about carrying a piece of equipment that weighs a couple of pounds then you have to carry 10 days worth of batteries to go with it the weight adds up quick.
