Hey guys I'm looking for some recommendations on an assisted opening knife with the following requirements:
3.5" blade (or close to it).
Under $100 (or close to it).
No flippers and not a SOG Flash II.
So far I've been looking at the Benchmade Barrage. Any gripes with this blade?
Got any better suggestions?
Thanks for your help!

kershaw blur?

I second the Kershaw Blur!

I have one in CPM154, stonewashed blade, Olive Drab color scales. Also comes in Burnt Orange which is kinda cool. Nice "Trac-Tec" rubbery grips on the handle, ridiculously sharp outta the box and stays that way, and feels nearly indestructible. I love it, and I got it for $80 at www.knifeworks.com.

Deploys faster than you can blink and locks up super solid.

Also available in S30V (discontinued I think), 440C and Sandvik 13C26, but I recommend the CPM154 for a few extra bucks.

Don't forget the ZDP-189 composite blade. Love me some ZDP. :D

Most of Kershaw's AOs have flippers as their primary opening mechanism. (I say "primary" because some also have thumb studs, but they tend to be more awkward to use than the flipper.) Benchmade has a fair number of AOs in their lineup, all of which use thumbstuds rather than flippers, so I'd suggest checking out some of those.

In addition to the Barrage, the following are right around your preferred blade size and price ranges:

Benchmade Torrent
Benchmade Stryker
Benchmade/HK Nitrous Blitz
Benchmade/WARN 583 (if you don't mind tantos)

I Third the Kershaw Blur!

The Warn looks good but I wonder why they don't have it at gpknives.com? They have way better prices on benchmades than anyone else.
I heard the Blur doesn't lock up to good? any of you have that problem?

Zero Tolerance 0350 CB $129 @ sooner knives.I just got mine and I LOVE IT!! Also limited edition.

The Blur is a great choice. If you can wait for a little while, the Kershaw Random Task II is another good one:

Never had any lockup issues with the Blur (go with a composite blade) or look at the Benchmade 913D2 drop point stryker. I rotate both but if I think I may need to really use the blade the Stryker gets the call because of the D2 steel. If they are making the Blur with a 14c26n blade its good to go too:thumbup:
I'm a hardcore Kershaw fan/user been carrying one for close to 20 years but I between the 2 I have to give the edge literally to the Benchmade Stryker

Knifeworks is another place that has excellent prices on Benchmade, but it looks like they're sold out of the 583-1 Warn as well. But search for it on Amazon -- I just looked and there's a third-party seller there who has one for a price similar to what you'd find at GP/KW.

I like my Blur (S30V). The slanted thumb stud is nice. I did take a hone to the thumb stud because it was so sharp. Sharp enough that it would take shavings off your fingernail. Some may like it like that but it was too hard on my thumb/skin. After wearing down the edges its great. Seems like a heavy duty knife.
