Assisted Opening knife recommendation!

fourth on the Blur. do yourself a favor and get one with exotic steel, ex. CPM154, S30V, ZDP-189. they are totally worth your time. btw, the thumbstud is excellent.

Benchmade Barrage for the win. It's one powerful assisted opener.

Would you say this fires quite hard? My favorite, hard firing, fast opening ao in the lower price range have been the Kershaw Avalanche, and the Leek

Another vote for the Blur. Kershawguy has some blems for <$50, good way to try one out for a great price. I've got 3 of them, no lockup problems for me.

Kershaw Rake. 3.5" composite D2 blade, nicely textured G-10 scales. Just picked up a blem from Kershawguy and I cant keep it outta my pocket! :D

The Barrage is the hardest firing knife I've ever handled, and that includes automatics. I believe the coil spring in the Barrage stores more potential energy than the torsion bar in the SpeedSafe mechanism of the Avalanche or Leek. However, one can get these knives to fire just as hard by providing external finger/hand force with the flipper. Of course you can also make the Barrage fire even harder by really flipping the thumb stud. When new, the Barrage feels like it's going to fly out of your hand, it's almost too strong. Once the spring is broken in, it's about perfect.

+5, 6, and 7 on the Blur, AWESOME knife for the money :D

And I am REALLY liking the look of that Barrage, I see where some tax return money might be going :D:D

I had the blur I took it back because it rattled when open. Made it seem cheap. I own a mini barrage now, and it's a much better knife. The assist is stronger, and always deploys fully. The blur wont open comletely if something gets in the way. The barrage will keep pushing until it is open.

IMO that makes them unsafe compared to the speedsafe setup. The rattling is fixed by some grease if the knife develops it. The mini barrage is a great knife too though, lots to love about it. I just never liked the idea of that type of assist setup, same reason I wouldn't carry most autos even if they were legal.

If you end up looking at blurs, the basic 14c28 steel is quite impressive I'd take it over s30v in most cases. But in any flavor the Blur is a great working knife, never had lockup issues or even read any legitimate ones online.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm actually just going to get both. haha
I already ordered the standard Blur and I'll be ordering the Barrage shortly.
After that I'll be ordering a Spyderco Military. Then I'll be done purchasing
knives for a while.
Thanks again guys.

I know I'm slightly late to the discussion, but I would personally recommend a BM Barrage, because it is the hands down most fun assisted opener I've tried yet.

The reason I recommend it is because it locks up so solid, I mean no bladeplay at all for my knife, and the Axis lock is really sturdy. I've been carrying mine around for a month or so, and it is so fun and a really decent knife to carry. The only problem is that it opens hard and isn't really discrete at all. Also, I know that people complain about the plastic handles, but it feels really nice and since it has full liners I haven't had a problem yet with any flexing.

The main issue I had, personally, with the Kershaw Blur was that while it was extremely fun to open, it also had a liner lock. As nice as Kershaw seems to make liner locks, I trust an Axis lock more. Also, as others have mentioned the Barrage will open always open fully and lock, while the Blur I tried out would sometimes snap back open just halfway when not fully closed. I would personally have the blade fully out and locked, instead of possibly poking me because it popped open halfway.

Anyways, I find the Barrage to be awesome fun and it never gets tiring for me to play with. Hope you have fun with whatever knife you go with.

I agree , the baragge is not as safe as the blur. The assist fights back when you try to close it. on the blur the blade flops over half way. definitly makes it easier and safer to close. Imo though the barrge is a class above the blur.

the ZT 350 get my vote. been in my pocket for 3 months now and it's not going anywhere for some time to come

Sog Aegis... opens like a beast!! also check nutnfancys review on youtube thats what made me buy the knife i hear a mini version coming in may also
