Atlanta Blade Show 2021?

I got my ticket. Fortunately for me, Atlanta is a short drive. I think this year people are excited to just have a show to go to. Not sure if crowds will match previous years or not. Regardless, nothing in the world like Blade Show. Looking forward to finding new knives and makers.

I live 30-45 minutes from The Galleria/Cumberland Mall area where the Blade Show is held, and I am planning on going all three days, but as of right now, I'm not planning on doing an early bird ticket on Friday.

The good news is, here locally, the COVID numbers are trending down quickly. Georgia as a whole had a VERY disorganized vaccine plan to start with, but it seems to be rolling out a bit better now. Fingers crossed things will be looking up by June, but if I was in a high risk group, I'd probably sit this one out just to be on the safe side.

Side note: The Braves are at home the same weekend of The Blade Show (for those that may not know, the new Braves Stadium is right across the interstate from the Galleria/Cobb Convention Center where Blade is held), so traffic Friday and Saturday afternoon/evening is gonna be a mother. Sunday hopefully won't be as bad.
From my experience traffic in Atlanta is always a mother!

Lived there back in the early 80's and at that time it was said that Atlanta would be a great city if they ever finish building it. Here we are 40 years later and they still haven't finished.

I'm vax'd but there's no way I'd fly anywhere to go to anything yet.

Hopefully, Blade Show West which is currently scheduled for Oct 8-9 in Long Beach will still be held this year so that I can drive there instead.

Tickets are not on sale yet.

I would consider going but I already have plans for that weekend so it just wont happen for me regardless of any health concerns

FWIW, it's not just the risk of contracting a break-thru infection of C19 on a flight that's preventing me from getting on a plane.

It's the primarily the inconvenience of flying generally and the increasingly alarming incidents of "bad behavior" on planes from people who think that they are entitled to do whatever they want on a plane w/o regard to others, going so far as to punch out flight attendants.

No way I'm getting on a plane voluntarily to risk subjecting myself to such idiocy.

I'd be happy to drive to Atlanta to attend the Blade Show instead but there's no need to do so if, as I hope, Blade Show West is held in Long Beach in October.

Every other day I see another maker on IG posting that whole “I regretfully have decided NOT to attend this year”. LOL, looks like most of the production companies will be there. I‘ll be at Blade West instead.
I wonder how many people/companies will be there from out of the US? Far as I know it's still hard to enter the US from even Canada, let alone Europe or Japan.

I can understand issues with flying I haven't flown since I think 2004 no real plan to anytime soon. I have checked google maps it tells me I can get to Hawaii by driving to the west coast and then kayaking to islands so seems I have options :p

To Hawaii, I'd rather hop a freighter (not a cruise ship) and take my time getting there.

The only problem is trying to get off the boat, given Hawaii's current draconian testing/quarantine rules which just tell me NOT to even bother trying to go there.

Besides, I've been there many times and there's nothing there that I need to see again. ;)

Are those restrictions still in place? I ask because a friend and his wife are over there right now and didn't seem to have any problem getting in.

Just read a article about people who were refused entry into HI because they didn't get tested at an "approved" site; they were tested at the Mayo Clinic.

Have also read conflicting reports about varying rules on different islands and what you had to do to get and stay in. The last article was about travel to Maui or Kauai where you could take a test on arrive but have to stay at one of the resorts, wear a bracelet/tracker to monitor your movements and then you get to take it off after you clear w/in 3 days and get a phone app "passport" to let you roam the island.

These are just some of the confusing reports that I've read. On the other hand, if you research the rules and follow them exactly, you should have no problem getting in but, then again, all businesses are not open and the cost of car rentals have skyrocketed w/reports of ppl renting U-haul trucks instead because they're cheaper. LOL! o_O

Bottom line, it's just not worth it (to me) to even bother trying to go there.

Same applies to A LOT of other places in our country. Not to mention that most of the other places in the world still have a worse C19 problem than we do here in the US. Heck, you still can't drive into Canada (not sure about Mexico) for personal reasons.

So, I'm just staying close to home and I'm not going anywhere, unless I can drive "there" in my own car.

All I know is my buddy and his wife are still having a great time today touring all over the big island. Strange.

Don't come now, too much hassle.
Each island has their own protocols, sort of like each state is different.
During the shut down, the rent a car folks sold off the fleets and it's difficult to find a car.
NIce thing is the hotels are cheap(er) and I suppose you could always catch the bus (on O'ahu, the other islands don't have traditional bus service). The beaches are fairly empty as are all the other tourist spots.
I was thinking of going to Moloka'i but gave up because of the car thing. Maybe I can borrow Moloka'i Riders truck? The story of folks renting trucks and stuff is real.
If you can get a vehicle it's great! It's slowly getting back to normal.

I'm also thinking about Bladewest. In on Friday and out on Sat.

I checked with my friend. Covid shots AND the test before they could go. All had to be offically posted on some Hawaiian health website. More tests between each island. Seems like the feds should tell these people they are part of the US.
