Atlas Dynamic Defense

I agree that Cold Steel is a great manufacture. But I'm looking for a 4" bladed knife. Max of 4" inches. And Cold Steel doesn't make a high end 4 inch bladed knife besides the Pendleton. And I don't really love the look... So I'm looking at an Extrema Ratio TASK C now. From all I've heard, the TASK C is a great knife.

This is 4.5 " blade but by all accounts a fine product .

Extrema Ratio?!?

I mean it is becoming clear you are looking for something that "looks" uber tactical. Stencilling, urban camo, stuff like that.

Nothing wrong with that. To each his own.

Go with the Atlas Dynamic Defense. It's got the look that you want. If I'm making fun of it (and Extrema Ratio), you shouldn't care. Get what you like!

I would think Strider AND Dark Ops would also be among your options.

I'd have to agree that they are bit corny, but corny sells knives in some circles.

What I personally don't like is that they seem way, way over-priced for what you get(S30V for $450?). Lots of solid makers/companies out there that'll get you better materials for the money.

One knife that comes to mind immediately(for you) is the Zero Tolerance 0180. Sadly they're discontinued, but they pop up every so often on the exchange for great prices. Or check out the Knife Makers Exchange for anything that catches your eye.

Thanks guys! I've been checking out the Extrema Ratio knives for a while now, got side tracked on the Atlas knives, and now I'm back to Extrema Ratio! :) I've heard nothing but good about Extrema Ratio, so now I'll give them a chance!
I'll try and post my thoughts and a review of the TASK C when I get it in. I can't promise anything yet though as I'm crazy busy.

Thats a sweet knife. I'll have to keep an eye out for one... Thanks

Haha! Life is to short for getting knives that don't have stacks of character. I'm embracing my inner "uber" tactical. ;)
Strider and Dark Ops.... Hmmm. Yeah I'll have a look, thanks!

Price is most likely due to quantities. A Spyderco pm2 that they only make 200 of are going to cost $300 vs the 125 they cost because they make 1000's Of. Those numbers are bunk but but just trying to describe what usually happens with expensive knives.

For example a custom knife is going to be 300-400 minimum your paying labor and the makers making small batches at a time. Vs mass production knives with 1000s and they bring them to market for 100$ or something.

But yes your right, why buy one if you can get one cheaper from well known manufacturers? Cause you like it I presume.

I'm in agreement that I'd pass and buy a busse etc. But I don't think people get that concept. And tbo I don't know if it's in extreme limited supply, but if I had to guess I'd say that's the main reason. The other would be its msrp and not map or street prices. BladeHQ might sell them at map but dicks sporting goods might sell them at msrp as an example.

I know your looking for opinions from those who've owned them, but the mission statement or whatever it is on their website seems kind of cheesy.
They also seem a bit simple to cost what they do, and they could very well be selling them for way too much because they're designed for the most " extreme " " hardcore " " operator " types.
It's good you're asking on here first because this could be another company who uses Chinese produced blades to assemble their products.
I hope they're not, but you just never know.
There is a big fan group of USA designed knives built overseas on here. I can't stand that way of doing business but it makes for variety.

Go for it!!! In the end, if there's a knife that gives you a warm fuzzy....you gotta screw the logic and practicality and get it!

Find it and share some pics!

these kind of "Tactical/Operations" knives with serious looks and nice steels, good performance and military like shapes and features can be good working tools when made by respectable companies

FKMD (FOX Knives) and Extrema Ratio come to mind
If you like them and are interested in how they perform, wear and handle I recommend this channel, mainly these brands tested out in the woods, tropics, rivers and in survival scenarios

a sensible guy that puts these knives to the test, and gives honest opinon

I wonder how many government contracts for those sterile blades they've gotten. ;)

Clearly many a bad guy wets his pants on sight of these.

For the amount of money they’re asking for those silly knives, I rather put my money where the company stands by their products through Heaven and Hell and that would be Busse Knife Company.

If you want a military knife, Busse Knife Company is known for making knives for the military. Hell,; even The Walking Dead has a Busse knife or two.

I am rarely caught off guard by today’s knife prices but $300 for a push dagger? If I was in the market for a stainless tactical knife, I’d look into Spartan Blades first.

Well if they are on a TV show, they must be good. o_O

Not that they aren't, but that they are on a zombie show isn't exactly evidence.

It’s evidence of their popularity which is itself very evident that it’s a respectable product. Not only that but even Hawkeye has a Busse knife and that is a major name brand movie.

Sorry but I stand my ground that its proof that its good enough to stand on their own two feet on a public stage with everything it has to back it up with.
