ATS-43 visible grain?

The graining is due to the original segregation from solidification.I don't know why it would be more so when cold rolled and more in ATS-34 than 154CM. Cold rolling doesn't in itself cause segregation. The CPM process eliminates the segregation.

for all we know it the hot rolled and cold rolled could have been different batches

less you got the same batch done both ways hard to tell

i ll stick with my CPM steels :D

Mete, maybe what he said was, is that it elongates the segregation lines?
does that sound plausable?

Just a quick update. I tried Brett's tip and it worked pretty well. I rubbed it out
400 and 600 lubed with WD-40. It took away most of the visible grain, about to the
level you usually get with ATS. A valuable tip. Thanks, Brett.

I think I'm still going to play with it a bit more after the handle pieces are fitted.
A little grain actually seems to give it some character that stainless doesn't usually have. I may try lightly etching it, and re-brushing.
