its obvious to me that someone has "issues" with peter atwood, hard to figure out as i havent ever heard anything but good about the man, all he's doing is trying to make a living, how would you (or anyone else for that matter) feel if someone went after your means of putting food on the table like mamba is, i mean so what if he wont make them outta what ya want, so what if they are overpriced, man, if ya dont like the things dont buy them no reason to go nutz about it.

i wanna know WTF is up with all the hate, gotta be something where there is smoke there is fire, let us in on WTF??

Amusing albeit low-wattage responses. You keep implying that I'm doing this for reasons of animosity, but I've said repeatedly that this is a thinking exercise for me in which I explore the possibilities for this kind of purchase. I don't give a tinker's cuss about Mr Atwood, indeed, I wish him well with his overpriced (IMO) bottle openers. I've simply used this forum as a scratch-pad for my thoughts and a place to store links to which I'd like to return (perhaps), and which others may find interesting. The fact that so many of you wish to inject girlish spitefulness into everything is astonishing to me. The last time I came upon such an emphasis on the personal was in a female forum.

So guys, grow some balls, stop whining and squealing like girls, let Atwood defend himself if he feels attacked (he obviously doesn't, judging from his absence here), and leave this thread alone if the topic doesn't interest you, apart from the opportunity it presents for you to flame and troll.

In any event, I'm through with this exercise for now, so you'll have to hunt for another "newb" to abuse today.

Imagine going to a party where most of the folks have known each other for a long time. The door was open, so you walked in. You violated some of the rules of good manners in the house--you were admonished for it, but instead of learning from the experience, and becoming a wlcome guest--you took offense.

Let's see now--you then proceed to trash one of the respected members of the community-one who has done you (or anyone else) no harm. And when people call you on it, you begin to whine that you are not welcome--that you treat people in a better fashion in your own house, etc....

I do not blame you for keeping your identitiy secret- after behavior like this, you have virtually no chance of interacting successfully with members of this community, unless you start over again from a position of anonymity.
 
mamba-man, you should take the extra cash you've saved from not buying a Prybaby to buy yourself a clue. Never mind your retarded antics in the Political room, but wtf is the point of dragging up a year-old thread to shit all over, unless you've got some hate agenda against Mr. Atwood and his products?

I don't care if you think his stuff is overpriced. Don't buy it. Buy your mass-produced, shoddily made, impersonal, boring prybars/bottle openers if you want. Spend your money on things that make you happy. I buy $6 t-shirts at Target and $10 shorts because nice clothes are at the bottom of my list. That leaves me more money to spend on stuff I want to spend money on.

But claiming that Peter's stuff is overpriced and unjustified is completely asinine. He skillfully hand crafts custom made tools, with personalization to the customer, from premium materials. He's a guru on titanium anodization; nobody can do Ti like he does.

And as for "I believe Atwood uses the metals he uses (S30V and Ti) purely to try to justify the high prices he charges.", you're really being a complete ass here. Has it occured to you that his customers want tools in these materials? That if he didn't offer them, people would ask him too? Titanium is cool. It's light, strong, doesn't rust, and can be anodized in cool patterns and colors. S30V is a premium knife steel. Are you somehow completely ignorant of the fact that Peter not only makes prybars and whistles, but he's an accomplished and very talented custome knife maker as well?

If he made a Prybaby in "400 Surgical", nobody'd buy one. The cost of making it (time/labor) would be too prohibitive and pointless. I might agree that custom material choices would be nice, but maybe that's not what Peter wants to do. His choice.

And "justify the high prices"? This is a custom made tool here, not a machine stamped hunk of random metal. And guess what? People buy his products. If people buy them, he doesn't have to "justify" a damned thing. A Sebenza might be expensive for a production knife, and it is indeed more than I'd spend on such a knife (I'd buy a custom, Rick Hinderer or somethign), but people still buy them. They buy them as fast (or faster) than Chris Reeve can make them. He doesn't have to justify a goddamned thing about his "high" price.

I've obviously outraged the posers with $65 Ti bottle openers on their keychains, so I'll be off before it gets really ugly. The last few weeks on this forum have been useful in helping me organise a few purchases I've made, so thanks to the owners for that. Thanks to the posters who have given me direction and helped me with my acquisitions! :thumbup:

I like my Prybaby. Its a handy little tool and gadget. Mine has been put to the mundane taks of opening beer bottles, scraping paint, pulling a few nails and prying open a window. Would a different bunch of tools had done just as well? Sure.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you think that it uses a steel unsuited to the task, don't buy it. If you think it is too expensive, don't buy it.

If you want handy little gadget, that is carefully made by a guy who has a good reputation, then buy it!!!

I stated that I would like to go there and act the way you are here. I am glad to see that you are willing to admit that your posts are disrupting this forum. It seems to me that you are doing this on purpose to see what kind of reaction you will get. Your above statement leaves me with the impression that you would not welcome the behavior you are displaying here, on your forum.
