As I’m sure most of you already know, August 1st is Yorkshire Day! ;) The day when all around the world, ex-patriot Yorkshiremen and Yorkshirewomen, and the blessed inhabitants of God’s Own County, (the ones with good memories and reliable calendars), celebrate all-things Yorkshire! Whether it be wearing a traditional flat-cap, eating a scone, wrestling a ferret, or sitting in the pub drinking a pint and watching the rain teem down outside, no expense is spared! Of course, there are also many renditions of the Yorkshire anthem ‘On Ilkla Moor Bar Tat’, sung by craggly-faced old Yorkshiremen, gurning proudly towards a white rose flag flapping about in a parky breeze, and possibly a pie-eating contest or two!

So my friends, I invite you to join in the fun! You could perhaps make yourself a chip butty, or learn a few Yorkshire dialect words, drink a pint of Yorkshire bitter, chew a Liquorice Allsort, drown a pie in Henderson’s Relish, or simply carry a Sheffield-made pocket knife. You could even just make something up! :D

To help you find inspiration, I’ll give away a Lambsfoot pocket knife. Not just any pocket knife, but the very last of the 2018 Guardians Lambsfoot knives, in ebony, handmade in Sheffield by Arthur Wright & Son.

Anyone can enter, please post as many times as you like, tell us what you have planned for Yorkshire Day, or what you did, imagination and good humour may help you win, photos very welcome. The best posts will go into a draw. I’ll ship anywhere in the world, and may even include a few other bits and pieces for the winner of this battle of wits. This is my 25th giveaway on Bladeforums, so please enter. Beyond that, all I ask is that, if you win, you carry the knife, post at least one pic in the Guardians thread, and don’t sell it. If you already have one of these knives, you are welcome to give it away to another poster here. Have a great Yorkshire Day!

Aye up, Jack! Great idea. 'Tis 2 more days while August 1st, which leaves me enough time to go shopping for some ale or brew. As we have quite the British weather this summer down here in Slovenia, I may just as well watch a shower (one just passed). I'll let you know if it's falling straight or a bit sideways. :p
Since Ah'm ba'ht a Sheffield knife, Ah'd be chuffed if you count me in.
While Yorkshire Day, in a bit, gaffer!

(Sorry for the probably very nonsensical use of Yorkshire words ...)

Hear hear! Drink one for me my friend as it is only monday morning in the US of A, but we are inching closer to rendezvous time!

Cheers Jack

Not an entry, as I already have one of these fine knives, and putting my name in the hat would feel greedy.

But checking in to issue an early happy Yorkshire Day to Jack and all of our friends from that corner of the globe. To honor the event, I’ll give myself a brief reprieve from my low carb diet to enjoy one of the Newcastle beers that are being neglected in my beer refrigerator.

Best of luck to the GAW entrants, as the winner will be receiving a very nice knife.

I wish I had a picture of one of the ferrets I had in my youth to post... My wife hates them so I guess no ferret wresting in these parts for the holiday:confused:
Instead, I will tote a Joseph Rodgers to work with me!

Very cool giveaway. I'm in.

August 1st is the day I have earmarked for giving my Yorkshire his annual haircut.

The knife I use is a stag covered William Rodgers, made in Sheffield of course.

To celebrate a job well done, I finish up with my Complete Sherlock Holmes and re-read The Priory School, set in South Yorkshire.

The whole operation is rather involved, and unfortunately the Yorkie seems to be losing his patience for it. Depending on this year's success, I may just decide to celebrate next year's Yorkshire Day with a pint at the local pub.

I’ll have a pint or two for certain, as I completely missed out on these and Ebony is my favourite handle material. For now I will be taking the rubbish to the bin.

Not an entry, as I've already been gifted more than one Lambsfoot, and while I can be greedy, I'm not that greedy!
Good luck to all, and I'll carry a Lambsfoot on Yorkshire Day, drink a brown ale, and try to remember what rain looks like. :D:thumbsup:

I should've mentioned that J.R.R. Tolkien is one of my favorite authors, so I'll probably pick up Smith of Wootten Major or Farmer Giles of Ham to read.
