It pains me to write this on a variety of levels.

I sent augustus88 (whose name and address etc I will not post here) a couple of Remington (Camillus) Bullet Knives I had purchased from Mike Latham back in early May.

I was originally going to send the knives back to Mike for credit since there were some issues with the knives but augustus88 told me that he could swap out the scales and do a little cleanup work on the knives.

Cool. Now I didn't have to take money out of Mike's pocket and I might also have some nicely re-scaled Remington's worthy of carry.

I shipped the knives down to augustus88 and they were delivered on 5/13/08.
He confirmed via a telephone conversation that he had the knives and what he could do for me with them.

I have tried reaching out for augustus88 via email and phone messages since before the Blade Show and he has not returned one message. (I knew he had gone on a fishing trip for a few days, (or that's what he had told me) and I began getting concerned that something might have befallen him or his family.

In any case I've now left several messages via telephone and email, all of which have gone unanswered despite the fact that I have observed that he was logged on bladeforums today as well as on June 13th.

I hate to think the worst of people and I'm always ready to apologize when wrong, but in this case it just seem that augustus88 has decided to be one of the few rotten apples in the bunch.

This becomes especially bitter for me because several months ago I had sent a barlow knife to his young daughter as a "first knife" in a giveaway I ran in the traditional forum.

As I mentioned to augustus88 via email, it's not about the money or the knives anymore. Hell, I'd have given them to him if he had asked. Now it's just about the fact that a man couldn't be taken at his word, and that's always a sad affair in my book.

Sorry for the long rant. I hope augustus88 will be man enough to do the right thing (which I will be happy to report here). If not, it'll have to suffice that he'll no longer be a part of this community.

Just talk to him. Work this out. It's easy. It's the right thing to do.

This seems like an odd situation given the factors described herein. I did a quick review of posts and threads from augustus88, and he appeared to have a good style of communication with people, and I did not see any communication red flags in earlier posts by him.

As we all know, many variables can enter into a transaction equation which can produce confusion, frustration, and misunderstandings.

I just sent the following text (including a link to this thread) to augustus88 through the BF email link he has on his profile.

To augustus88: "Please take note of this situation."

"I know this is not my business, but it seems like your were well respected on the forums.

I hope nothing bad has happened to you or your family. I feel sure you could work out any misunderstanding with this situation if you are so inclined, and able to.

I hope this can be resolved in the spirit of trust and good faith that Bladeforums is best known for.

I just went back and checked the date and it seems I misspoke. It was May 16, 2008 (three days later than I reported) when the knives were delivered.
Even if the knives were inadvertently damaged in good faith I'd have been able to overlook and forgive that if only some honest attempt to communicate with me had been made.

Known Blues for a long time and it is an honor for me to call him a friend.
He is a patient an generous person.

I hope A88 gets in touch with him and lets him know what is going on. I am sure if that happens this will work out. Otherwise why? There is no reason to run and hide over this. Communication is key, that is all it would take to settle this.

Augustus88 is about to no longer have any credibility or integrity here and that's a shame. It is like suicide...........................

I received an email this evening and augustus88 explained what the circumstances were regarding why I hadn't heard from him. Apparently someone else from his family may have logged on the site in his absence making it appear that he was available when he may not have been (and leading me to jump to conclusions).

In any case, he is upset (with some reason based upon my messages to him) and says he has sent the knives back today. That should bring this unfortunate saga to an end.

I apologize for letting my suspicions get the better of me and allowing the lack of communication to lead me to believe that I was being taken advantage of.

Thanks for the support and concern though in this instance it seems I didn't really merit it.
