Aus-8 rust resistance

I have carried a recon 1 in aus-8a for the last year and a half. The blade has been stripped and i work offshore on an oil tanker so the blade is exposed to salt water/mist/air and rust has never been an issue. I have to say this blade has held up great and has impressed me.

I suspect that this has a lot to do with "received wisdom".

Someone did have a bad experience (and let's face it, there are very few steels that won't rust in extreme circumstances) and someone attributed it to something (AUS-8, bead-blast finish, whatever) and told others and the story spread from there.

Will AUS-8 rust? Yes.

Will it rust under normal circumstances, cleaned and dried after use? I doubt it.

I have had CS Aus-8 knives since 2011 and haven't had any rust yet. I live on the Gulf Coast so I am careful. I take the 30 seconds to wipe my knife down at the end of the day. If I am going to expose my knife to salt water or sweat over a prolonged period, why take a chance? I use a knife that has rust proof steel, like the BM Grip H20 or a Spyderco Salt series.
I like to carry the light weight Delta dart/sheath or a Bowie Spike when I exercise. I can wipe down the Spike in 10 secs.
The new Voyager is my favorite outside/yard knife. The stonewash has been rust resistant so far.
