Awful day for me, lost my first and only CRK

So I went out to the shooting range today and decided to carry my new Small Sebenza Insingo that I just got a couple weeks ago. Some of the guys there are knife guys and we usually talk knives a bit and let's face it, part of owning a CRK is watching the look on guys that know knives when they see one. So I walk into the shop and am talking to a buddy behind the counter and I reach for my Sebenza and nothing is clipped to my pocket. I immeadietely had that sick to my stomach feeling and sheer panic set in. I ran to the parking lot and looked all around by my car and nothing.

This range is 30 minutes from my house and I had stopped to get gas around the corner from home before I left and the only thing I can think of is that it snagged on something and fell out of my pocket when I got out of the car. I called the gas station right away and of course no one has seen anything. I also turned my car inside out and nothing. I am usually very careful with my personal belongings because I work hard for my things and I can't afford to beat on my stuff or obviously lose it, so this is a horrible day for me. It was also only the 3rd time it had left the house and was strictly a "sit on the couch and admire" knife. I sold off 3 of my knives to get that damn thing and of all the knives that were in my pocket today only to get lost this just had to be the one. The worst part is that whoever picked it up and kept it probably has no idea what they found.

My weekend is absolutely turned upside down guys. It's going to be a long time before I'm able to get another one so obviously I'm just sick. Anyway I thought I would share that and blow off a little steam here. It was nice being a part of the CRK club for the last couple weeks anyway. Lol.

Thanks for listening and I'd love to hear some stories if any of you guys have lost your Grail knife.

Damn dude, im sorry to hear that:( One of my worst fears is losing one of my CRKSs

It sucks losing a knife especially a high dollar one. I lost a XM18 that I recently put a CF scale on, that was a bad day.

I just got into knives in the last couple years and the Sebenza was on my radar since about 3 weeks into my getting into the hobby. Before that I had no clue what one even was. It took me over a year to get that knife and less than 3 weeks to lose it. When I say I'm careful with my stuff I mean it too. I carry a Victorinox cadet to use if something needs cut because I don't want to put a scratch on my nice knife. I also always made sure that the pocket I carried it in was empty so it wouldn't get a scratch. I can honestly say I haven't misplaced or lost anything that I carry or own in years so this was a hell of a way to break that streak.

Did you check your seat belt? Sometimes the seat belt will snag it right out of your pocket!! Check your car again. I am really sorry that you lost it!!

I turned the car inside out but for good measure I just went back out with a flashlight and its definetely not in there. I checked between the seats and even in the actual seat rails and nothing. Just so you know I keep my car very clean as well even though it's older so I would be able to see it if it was in there somewhere. I'm really spun out over this. Why couldn't it have been my spyderco tenacious, at least then I'm only out $40.

Any chance it got stuck in the couch or a chair on your way out the door in the morning?

The thought of losing such a knife makes me feel a bit queasy, so I can only imagine your struggle right now.

Sad you lost it, hope you will find it...

Mine is kept secure on a small safetysling.

I know I had it when I got in the car because it was on the kitchen counter with my edc light and I put them both in my pockets on the way out. The car was already loaded up so it didn't snag on range gear or anything like that. I already played all that out in my head to make sure and even checked by range bags just in case. The only thing I can think of is that when getting out of the car to get gas it got snagged enough that it was hanging and either fell out in the parking lot or on the mat in front of the cashiers station inside the store. I even called to see if they could check security cameras but they said they were sorry but that isn't what the security system is for. Even if they did how could I track down who picked it up. I've pretty much chalked it up as a very big loss at this point. I was already stretching when I bought it so maybe this was a sign telling me that I shouldn't have bought it and spent that much money on a pocket knife in the first place. Who knows, just wasn't meant to be.

Ouch! Mega chitty man. I have been really lucky (knock on wood) I have only ever misplaced a knife. I know how it feels tho to have lost one. I feel ya blade bra!

So sorry for your loss. I feel your pain and really hope that it turns up somewhere. Don't give up hope. It may help to post a flyer at the range (or even the gas station) and spread the word, you never know.

Sorry to hear it. But others in your situation have had them turn up again later. I do know what lost prize knife feels like and for me its always the cheep ones that find their way back

:(

Hope it turns up somehow.

Thanks LW. At this point unfortunately it's not looking good my friend. While this thread has been going on I've continued to check and recheck every possible place that I was in or even remotely close to. I even went back to the gas station, checked the parking lot, and was crawling around in the store looking under potato chip and candy bar displays and nothing is turning up. There is some guy or gal somewhere that has a $350 knife in the center console of their car and don't even know what they have.

We had another person here recently who went through this. After he'd given up hope, his knife reappeared. Crossing my fingers the same thing happens here.

I once lost an original Gerber Paul knife, which was my favorite knife at the time. I had spent a week at my brother's cabin dear hunting. When I got home, the knife was missing. I looked through all my gear and nothing. Checked out the cabin the following week and nothing. Time went by and I pretty much forgot about the knife. Well, a year later It was time for hunting again. When I went to put on my hunting boots, there was something in the right boot. Yup, there was my knife. The moral is, you never know when a lost item will show up. Keep the faith.

I wish this was a situation where it could turn up but the problem here is that I strictly remember putting it in my pocket as I went out the door so I know I didn't leave it behind. Then there was only one stop in between the last time I knew I had it and the range where I figured out is was gone. That leaves the car and the gas station parking lot and inside. Which I've done everything except remove the seats in my car, which wouldn't do any good anyway because I can plainly see everything under the seats so that would just be a waste of time. And I've been all through the gas station where I stopped, fueled up, and grabbed a coffee. If I had to put together a scenario I would say that when I got out of the car the knife must've snagged on the seatbelt just enough to leave it dangling a bit on my pocket, then when I went inside, both where the coffee station is and in front of the register are those throw carpets which would dampen the sound of a titanium knife falling from my pocket and hitting the floor when getting out my wallet or fixing my coffee. So my guess is that it dropped on the carpet and someone picked it up and walked off with it. Not everyone is honest unfortunately so especially if someone knew what it was they would probably stuff it in their pocket and not say a word. It's sad to think that but it's just the day we live in.

That's the best guess I can put together. There are only very few places that it could've been and I've been completely thru those and anything that was even close to those places. Unfortunately I can't see a positive outcome on this one. If I had misplaced it in the house or something then chances are it would turn up eventually, but this is just a different situation and as much as I like to be a positive person I can't see this ending well for me and my knife. I'm just completely disgusted with myself that I let this happen. As I've mentioned before I'm such a cautious person and I take such great care of my stuff. So this is a real bummer.

Never lost a knife, but I can imagine the feeling, especially considering that this was not an easily attainable blade for you.

It happens.

Save up and buy another one, life is a b!tch sometimes...
