Axe preferences among Becker fans?

Speaking of edge covers...does anyone know where i could get two edge covers made? One for my collins ax and one for my little hatchet?

Atm I am torn between the new Les Stroud Gransfors Bruks bushman axe, and the Council Tool Velvicut Hudson Bay axe

I have enough LL Bean gift cards to get a Gransfors Bruks Small Forrest Axe if they ever decide to get them in stock.

Not sure if it will be too short though. Might go with a Husquvarna like Trade's.

I have made my own, I would say its one of the more easy leather working projects. If that's not for you I am sure you could find someone on here to help as there are many hide workers here.

Velvicut's are nice but I have heard from more then one person that they felt like the edge was a bit soft compared to a Gransfors.

I have an Estwing Camp Hatchet, A full size axe that I can't remember the brand of, A Gransfors Bruks small forest axe and a Cold Steel Trail hawk.

I love my Collins Hudson Bay and ancient Plumb hatchet.
Not a fan of the CS trailhawk.

Estwings are not bad, but they have a thinner profile, more tomahawk like. A thicker, heavier, more traditional axe head shape will outchop it.

I've scrounged up a few old, rusted up axe heads from the old barns on our farm. With a new handle and some time with a file, they make fine tools for the price.

I got a Wetterlings Swedish forest axe for Christmas, which is probably my favorite. It came paper shredding sharp from the box, and the fit and finish was fine so far as I could tell. And it moves wood.

I like council tool axes. I have a 2 1/4lb boys ax and a hudson bay 1 3/4lb (not the velvicut) Both cost less than 40 dollars and are well made tools, The hudson bay goes camping with me and is packed up for the season(so no sexy pics). The boys ax is my work horse and the extra 1/2lb makes cutting a bit easier. It handles everthing that i throw at it and it wants more. I have even thrown it. i bet you don't find many granfors bruks that have been used like this. My only complaint is that when it was new it had a waxy coating on the handle but a little hockey tape fixed that quick and easy.

Jedslack- have you looked at Kiahdex? Its all kidex not traditional, but great design and lots of features/ options. Just a thought.

I really like my Council Tool Boys Axe, If I remember correctly it was under 35 shipped and made in USA

Anyone have a Cold Steel axe, like the Trail Boss? I thought about it but I want to know how the steel is first.

Between My OKC 18" military machete and my Gerber Camp Axe 2 my chopping and hacking needs are well satisfied.

My Gransfors Bruks Small forest axe has been great so far. I want to do some trips this summer with this and my BK-16 to really get the hang of it. Then I will need more axes.
