Guys, I'm thinking that you didn't sufficiently change the "burning man" image. It is the intellectual property of someone else, apparently the BSA. Without their permission, I can see how the patchmaker would be hesitant to make that patch for us.

I assume that we can still draw our own guy on a spit, it just shouldn't be an exact copy of their patch. So lose the scout uniform and add some knives!

The problem is not he "burning man" but that plus the patch shape. According to Stadri, taking the neckshief from the "burning man" is enough to change the image. But that patch shape denotes a Council Patch for the BSA. That's why they proposed doing the patch in a rectangular shape. We know that we can make the patch for sure if we do it the way they propose, but we can avoid the change IF someone related to the Scouts is making the order. In this case, they may be willing to take the order from me IF I can proove that I'm ordering for someone who can buy Council patches. That's why I need the information I requested.

I hope the person from BSA that "places the order" isn't in some way speaking for BSA. Don't want anyone getting in trouble.

The interesting thing to me conserning the GOS patch is this, if it is already a patch for the BSA, why would you want that exact patch for a forum patch. That would be like seeing one of the military patches and just because it looks cool, making it a patch for the forum. I'm not knocking anyone's idea. I just wanted to voice that in case it raises an aspect that people might not have taken into consideration. Anyone who knows that patch already will just assume you're a boyscout. That's one of the reasons i steered away from it. Sure it looks cool, but it's a patch that is already in use and is recognized.

The GOS is not identical to the BSA patch. It has all the text and identifiers removed. The patch is not well known. I had to direct Stadri to the original. We may be able to modify it a little more and avoid the problem, but the thing is that the people who ordered it did so mostly as an inside joke/humorus comment. Changing the shape takes a little bit out of that inside joke. That's why I'm trying to get it done as is. If we can't, then we make it with changes.

Here is the patch in question.

Update:

Thomas Linton provided his BSA council information. Thank you Thomas. Stadri says they can do the patch... BUT the patch is a roasting patch and it needs to have text in it saying who's been roasted. Adding BLADEFORUMS would not be enough. Without the roasting information the patch can't be done. I know that most, if not all the people getting GOS would prefer no text in them. So, in order to expedite the patches I've given up in doing them as is, and asked Stadri to do a variation on the shape of the patch that resembles the original shape without violating their license. They expect to ship the patches in about a week after this gets resolved. Keep your fingers crossed.

Well... Let's say that the redtape won this round. I guess that with GOS, close enough will have to do.

Just checked in here, I'm pretty sure I had one of these. Whatever changes aren't a big deal. Thanks for the effort. Red tape = fun time.

Thanks for all your effort. My dad does quite a bit of patch ordering and has used several different companies. Thanks to all the problems Stadri is causing, I'm pretty sure he is never going to do business with them. It is one thing if we were trying to copy the Eagle Scout badge or something, but when we remove all BSA identifiers and get permission from the BSA group that designed the patch to make it, the company shouldn't still refuse to make it. Sure losing my dad's business isn't going to hurt them, but if they keep these antics up, I can't believe that he will be the only person to stop dealing with them.

Well, that's something to consider if we decide to do the T-shirts. It looks like they have no problems with original designs, but seem to have an overcautious approach to their BSA license.

Was talking to my partner (she's a designer) and she does t-shirt design, has an account on http://www.redbubble.com/people/animo . Anyhow she said she'd be happy to put up a BF t-shirt and who-ever wants to buy can. The t-shirt brand is American Apparel, sweatshop free etc. She suggested it might be a little less stressful, ie not needing to collect money find out how many of each etc.
Might be worth a look.

Jules, I was looking at redbubble. Do you know or can find out if shipping would be from Australia or from Los Angeles?

Looks like it would be $30.22AUD including t-shirt and shipping :o but I'm not sure if you bundled a few together if it'd be cheaper. There are cheaper rates for buying numbers I'll try to get the figures.

Jules

Thanks for all the work on this Edgar. Stadri is definitely being a PITA on this one. I'm sure they will be fine in the end though.
