B.O.B. or go bags

Not to change the direction of this thread in anyway, but I was wondering about what Trailwolf thinks about the quality of the CountyComm GP4L radio? Been thinking about getting one, but wasn't sure about the quality of them.

it's a fine hand held little radio, but expect nothing more then what it is. I have two, they work well, but I really havent tried to use them for more then just local stuff.

Wow I did not expect the resurection of this thread Coffee thanks for the good adivice. My wife got me a Pygmy Falcon for Christmas (thanks dbltap45acp) & I can't wait to get my gear moved over

My favorite bag is the S.O. Tech Mission Go Bag.

The versatility, design, and execution of the bag are top notch. It also official issue.

My "pack" stays in my truck and is an LL Bean top-load (Bigelow Mountain, I think).

However, the most essential gear is split off into my Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon, which I use more often for day hikes. If I want everything to go in one pack, however, it's very easy to quickly shift it all into the Bean day pack.

I am currently using a small ACU duffel i picked up on base a while back with all my supplies just thrown in it.

I'm looking to get a better bag that i can actually organize soon.

Anyone have any suggestions?
I'll prefer a backpack style bad rather than a slingbag

It really depends. How much gear do you have? Are you looking for something pretty civi looking? Do you have any special needs you need the bag to fill?

Mine currently leaves a lot to be desired, but I basically keep my camp gear packed ready to go in our back packs (other than the sleeping bags with are in a separate bag). A few dehydrated meals, first aid, and general trekking gear. Boots and raincoats strapped to the packs. I can grab one bag and survive in rugged wilderness for a week or two.

I should clarify that I live in a part of Canada where the need for me to bug out would likely be due to a pandemic or geophysical disaster. Don't exactly have to worry about riots, looters, and such, so I focus on outdoors gear.

Location dictates many things. I live in a town of about 2,500 with a few close small towns pretty close. I would like to thing that there would be minimal reason to bug out. However my EDC bag is something for daily prepardness.

Filled pack. The GPS rides in the other side pocket when I'm tracking a hike.

I got a Max. Condor 2 for Christmas. I will use it for camping/BOB. It will replace the cheap travel bag that I've used for years. My wife has had a Blackhawk Patrol Pack for a couple years now.
The contents change due to whatever the situation calls for. When the bag is idle I normally have basic items such as food, clothes, hygene items, first aid kit, light, batteries, water bottle, ammo, gun, knife, small tool kit, etc.
I also have a bag in my truck for emergencies with alot of the same stuff I just mentioned.

Some very nice kits. I found a Mountainsmith backpack on closeout and filled it mostly with surplus gear. Nothing fancy. Not even pic worthy. just sturdy gear. Now that I am thinking of it I should go through it again.

Hey Tony whats on top of your Nalgene? (the one on its side)

It's a Stripen Prefiler that's designed to screw on top of any Nalgene bottle, I have the same thing on mine. The top is cup shaped and has a ultrafine screen to act as a prefilter to get rid of much of the grime, debrit, and sediment that would usually get into your bottle when filling it in a heavy sediment enviroment. It works really good and is well worth the roughly $11.00 cost. You can also buy replacement filters to change them out when they get clogged up. Try emgear.net.

Thanks for the heads up

Guyon, thanks for the post. Is that an old pack it looks a little different from mine & I was not aware they came in camo

I think there was also a Falcon and (now) a Falcon II. Based on a quick glance at the Maxpedition site, I have the Pygmy Falcon II.

As for the color, it is older stock. I bought it and a Baby Condor a few years back when LA Police Gear cleared out some overstock. Think I got 'em for something like $30 each.

I have a Kelty I've been carrying around for about ten years now as my EDC. It's not necessarily configured as a BOB right now - more of a "Get Home Bag." I also have a good sized scout pack (Field & Stream - nothin fancy) which I take hunting/hiking with me which has most of my wilderness survival gear - fire, emergency food, first aid, etc.

I'm considering replacing the Kelty with a Maxpedition - just trying to decide which one I want for an EDC.
