ive decided to make a bug out bag. theres suggestions all over the interweb, but i wanted to know what you guys had, so lets have some lists of supplies and pics of whats in everybodys get the heck outta dodge bags

The bob is so location specific...mine is a machete, 3 in knife, leather man, matches, f-rod, space blanket, head nets, sleeping net, tarp, shoes, fishing hand lines and throw nets, camelback, folding stove and 2 cans of fuel, water purifying tabelets, a pot, basic med supplies, ziplock bags, sunglasses and hat, flashlight, salt, compass, flare, bushman spear head, and 12 GA.

B.O.B.s are very personal and are packed to fill many different rolls for many different people. For example, a single male may pack way different gear than a family man with a wife, 3 kids and a dog. A bob for personal carry will be minimal compared to one designed for vehicle carry or homestead.

All that said. If you are an outdoorsman you most likely already have a bag mostly ready to go. The same stuff you pack to "rough" it in your area will cover many of the basics.

Also don't forget basic medical and water prep. to include a metal canteen or cup. Not a bad idea to keep educational information in a waterproof bag. Perhaps someone will need to use your gear on you. I'd like them to at least have an idea before administering aid.

B.O.B. = Beef Out Bag = Seven 8-10" sharp as hell blades and beef jerky (everything a growing boy needs)

In all seriousness, I am glad you started this discussion. I have two backpacks made by 5.11 that I am looking at for this specific situation. So far, I have:

HK .45 USP w/100 rounds
ESEE Junglas (hey, it had the molle sheath already)
Busse Jackhammer
Swamprat Rodent Solution (or Rodent 4)
Gerber multitool (best I have right now)
LED Flashlight w/2 sets of spare batteries
Fire Steel
Gloves (tactical of course)
First-Aid kit

That is all I have so far. I dunno how much food to take as I am under the "the man with the gun gets food and water regardless" notion. Given the size of the city I am in and how much these people like to eat, I will be fine for awhile.

I will absolutley NEED fruit roll ups, my Busse and pepsi..... That is my bug out bag

While a B.O.B is different for everyone like so many in here have said a B.O.B in practice should be able to cover a few universal things. I'll list them out with some potential items to help.

shelter- This is one of the most important
An emergency tarp of some sort with paracord.
I have an ultralight hammock to keep me off of the ground.
A blanket of some sort it can even be one of those emergency blankets, just something to keep you warm.

Fire-
Matches/lighter/firesteel/magnifying glass
I like to keep two or threes ways to start a fire as a fail safe in my bag.

Water-
Look into getting a life straw they are relatively cheap and work excellent.
A nalgene bottle and a regular bottle of water is good, never cross contaminate the dirty bottle with clean water and vice versa.
Water purification tablets. Also get a space saver pot to boil your water in it slips right onto the nalgene 32 oz. <--- pare this with an esbit stove cheap and effective.

Food-
Chocolate, trail mix, and honey should all be in the bag they are very versatile foods.
A 72 hour ration can be had for cheap its 3k calories and doesn't sap water.
A little fishing kit and some snare wire to procure your food.
A gun of some sort for protection and food procurement.

Wood processing-
Knives, saws, axes what ever you want.

First aid-
A good FAK
Also try and stock up on a few extra prescription medications to throw in the bag.
Advil/tylenol/ whatever are all good things to add aswell. Caffeine pills also they could really help in a pinch.

Misc-
MOST IMPORTANT
A B.O.B can be used for more than a Zombie invasion, think natural disaster it is very good in a grab and go evacuation so you should have copies of marrige licenses, birth certificates, medical history, passports, everything this is critical in a Bug out scenario where the government is still intact.
Also throw in some cash to have on hand I have 100$ in mine and 5 dollars in change. Vending machines may still be working and some only take coins.
Flashlight- A good handheld and a good headlamp- nothings worse than trying to make a shelter while its getting dark and trying to hold a flashlight.

Hope this helped a little bit.

Edit- Also add to this, this is just the very basics you should have everyones needs are different based on cultural and geographic differences so cater it to your needs.

A word of caution on personal documents and large amounts of valuables in the BOB. Be thoughtful to not put too many "eggs" in one basket. A thief could grab your bag, disaster or not, and make off with way more than you want to lose.

I personally use a Maxpedition Vulture II as my large BOB. I have several Maxpedition and Tactical Tailor MOLLE pouches/organizers on it. The bag is a great size and has more than enough MOLLE webbing on the sides, back and torso strap. I highly recommend both the bag and really any Maxpedition or Tactical Tailor gear. If I have the time, I will post the inventory of my bag and some photos.

The lists below were copied from a thread started by Architect over at the Yard forum. I think it is a great place to start. I have been using the list to fill out my BOB with the few things that I didn't think about.

This is what Architect said about a SMALL BOB. (Thanks Architect!!)

(Qty) Item - Explanation

(2) Bic Classic Butane Lighters - makes burning stuff easy.

(3) 12 Hour Chem-Sticks / Cyalume Light Sticks - keep one in your med kit...nothing like trying to treat a wound while holding a flash light. Ask how I know.

(1) Quick Touch Up Knife Sharpener - knocks off dull edge.

(1) Knife Sharpening Stone or Stick - takes nicks out, etc.

(1) 3600 Calorie Food Bar - you eat it. Food is good. Calories = working body = getting home.

(1) $10 Water Purification "Survival Straw" (Aqua Mira Frontier or $20 Pro) - no drinky = no livey.
(1) LED Headlamp with Spare Set Of Batteries - frees your hands to do other stuff like fight off zombies / open doors / wield weapons.

(1) $2 Emergency Space Blanket - its cheap and works if you use it while nekkid.

(1) Rain Coat - Don't know where Howe is, but if its like Indiana....getting cold and wet = hypothermia = potentially dying = suckage.

(1) Wool Watch Cap - see above.

(1) 32oz Nalgene Bottle - you put water in it.

(1) Nesting Cup - fits on the bottom of the Nalgene (space saver) and boils water / heats food / etc.

(10) Katadyn Water Purification Tablets - don't drink untreated water.

(1) Whistle - you might want to be found if a building collapses on you, you get lost at Wal-Mart, etc. Whistles last longer than your voice.

Also, below is inventory for a Belt Kit, copied from Architect as well:

The Belt Order

The Belt Order is designed as a "mini-survival kit". This is to be on you at ALL TIMES! You can leave your ruck in camp while you forage / set up traps / fish or hunt / use the bathroom / scout / etc as long as you do not take off the belt order! The contents of a survival belt order usually include:

1. USGI or Improved Civilian Equivalent Pistol Belt - this is NOT used to hold up your trousers. This is to be worn OVER your trouser belt.
2. Handgun Holster
3. Handgun Magazine Pouches
4. PSK (Personal Survival Kit) with:

4a) USGI Canteen Cup.

4b) 550 Cord (50 feet in ADDITION to the 100 feet in your BOB).

4c) Survival Straw.

4d) Lighter (this is in ADDITION to the lighter in your BOB).

4e) Firesteel.

4f) Tinder (this is in ADDITION to the tinder in your BOB).

4g) Knife Sharpener.

4h) Space Blanket.

4i) Bandanna.

4j) Compass.

4k) Water Purification Tablets (4 in addition to the tablets in your BOB).

5. Small & Medium Fixed Blade Knifes (more on this later).

6. Trauma Kit (more on this later).

Well I don't keep my actual B.O.B in a car or anything. I have it in a safe location within my home. I keep a Get home bag in my vehicle which is a different premise entirely I agree with your point, but as long as you don't carry it all around you will be fine.

Roger that,
Just wanted to put it out there for the "under informed" that caution is key when gathering personal info and riches all in one place. Ever lost or misplaced a wallet. Man, it sucks.

I will absolutley NEED fruit roll ups, my Busse and pepsi..... That is my bug out bag
absolute necessities..........I love your style Pokey!

.....................let's see, what do I need for the Zombie Apocalypse......... I need a baggy in my bag....don't forget that Beef- high trade value. Guns and ammo, a Busse, a folder, and good liquor. I can get everything else I need with these items.

whats in everybodys get the heck outta dodge bags

I'm already waaay outta dodge at my home. Don't need a BOB here. I'm in a National Forrest with a straight up mountain behind, and beside me, and a good sized creek in front of house. Hard to get to me(without me knowing), and I have all the game and fish I could eat. So I guess my home is my BOB:p

I seldom leave, but I do take a Pygmy Maxpidition in my truck with a few things in it. I have a fixed blade attached, multi tool, some food, lighter, matches, fire starter, tender, 100 weight fleece pullover(in winter), Surefire flashlight, batteries, first aid kit, and a Beretta Jetfire.

I am fairly limited in my Bug Out Bagedness so.... right now the only thing I carry around is a desperate look on my face and a couple dollars in my pocket.

This thread has me thinking. I am not prepared at all. I do not have any fruit rollups. And to make it worse Pokey drank all the pepsi.

Garth

I'm getting ready to work on my Baby Out Bag in an Osprey Quantum. Then it will serve as my manly diaper bag
