This is my stealth BOB, no one will guess what's in it, but they may wonder about you.

I probably have a lot of medical gear in mine that other folks would not need or carry. But I don't plan to really bug out, I would mostly stay put. Most of my prep is locale-specific, as I imagine most people do theirs.

Oh, and since my BOB doubles as my field pack, I rotate the contents frequently. Getting some more good ideas from all the things listed here, too.

Thats seriously a good idea for not getting singled out as possibly having weapons on you.

Considering how the cops were grabbing guns after Katrina I may just buy one and skip merrily to safety wearing a rainbow shirt and pink shorts that say juicy on the back so they don't ask to look. If they come out with a molle equipped model that will probably seal the deal:D

Just get a pack large enough to carry knives, guns, and lots of ammo.

You can raid and plunder anything else you need :D

If you're doing a true bug out bag, make sure you have some way to sanatize water, tablets, fire, etc. You body can go weeks without food but only a couple days without water. And have a 22 of some sort, handgun or rifle. Good for hunting small game, fairly quite, sound doesn't travel far, powerful enough for self protection against an enemy, and you can carry lots of ammo.

As for a pack, a BOB/3 day assault pack I carry a Camelbak Trizip. A little small but you can load the weight pretty heavy and it's comfy. Anything that needs an external frame pack I have a Jansport Carson 80 (I think). But it's extremely large and the Camelbak is a lot more practical.

I have a 72 hour bag that I take whenever I travel an hour or so away from the house. I have two Kelty 6400 cubic inch bags that stay at the house and wait for a real SHTF scenario.

Like everyone else said, start the basics and personalize based on your needs.

Since I'm basically a bug in at home kind of guy I just keep a small first aid kit a few tools and a knife and gun in the car with my main focus on just getting home. Now if the shtf and we have to abandon the area its more of a bug out giant trailer with horses and guns.

That is all I have so far. I dunno how much food to take as I am under the "the man with the gun gets food and water regardless" notion. Given the size of the city I am in and how much these people like to eat, I will be fine for awhile.

cheers, good luck:D

Easy Rhino, it was a joke. That's why I usued the smiley face thingy.

I don't think anyone has mentioned a small container of Vaseline and cotton balls. A small amount of vaseline can be put on the cotton ball and it will ignite quickly with a match or sparks.

+1

Dryer lint works pretty good too :D

Yep, sorry about the ragin...I thought it was a good idea to post after a third of a liter of beam...NOT. It's a sensitive topic for me I guess...because I wish certain truths were not. Fact is, raiding and mob rules are exactly what humans resort to in a bad situation...whether an individual is joking or not, it is the unfortunate truth about society and not a joke. How many minutes does it take for raiding to commence after the power goes out in a city...not many. That is why a BOB needs to provide the tools that allow you to either separate yourself from civilization, give you the means to protect yourself from those that will prey on you, or allow you the ability to thrive off the inherent weaknesses within a society (i.e., raid and plunder). Many people plan on the last option... Well, sorry about the ragin...I know this forum is about info exchange and keeping things light and happy...not for high horses. I'll delete my previous posts, so as to not muddy up the info thread with my scolding drunken rants. Rock on dudes! Raid and Plunder...Yay :D
now that's some Ragin!

I'm surprised that no one has included a map to the liquor stores or bars to defend in return for drinks :D

Mine is in a 5.11 12 hour bag. Here are just some items to add or think about in no particular order, rhyme or reason.

I would suggest the 38oz Guyot bottle in place of a Nalgene plastic bottle (boil water in). And put in one of those splash guards. They are nice and work well.

Lifestraw is great and I have a LifeSaver Bottle in a Maxpedition 12x5 nested in a snowpeak trek 900 for my BOB.

Hand sanitizer is great to keep things clean and secondary to help with fire starting.

Gorilla tape rocks!

A wool Buff has many uses. These are great!

Aqua-pouch is a really tough ziplock that can withstand boiling water and easy to wear under clothing to melt snow.

I also keep all my batteries the same (CR123) for my flashlight (4Sevens) and headlamp (zebralight) and in a single cell configuration.
