B.o.b

Is this in the right section? I would have never found it again seeing where it is now.

yes, because Beef is Busse crew and this is their Subforum. I have a several factory sharpened by him, and at least 2 that will end up in BOBs when my BOB fleet is completed. He really did a fantastic job on my B10s.

Well Beef, I know that you have seen my BOB and you know where I will be heading if the &$(# hits the fan. You are more than welcome to join me. Just remember to dress warm. ;)

Biggest problem I run into in gear planning is over preparing. Redundant systems are necessary for some things, but not everything. Decide what you really need. I am always looking for smaller and lighter gear that does it's task as good or better than the item it replaces. Shelter, fire prep., flashlights, battery/charging systems, blankets, radios/comms, clothing, everything is subject to be replaced if a lighter/smaller/better item is available. But I also avoid gimmick type items. Those fall into the unnecessary catagory.

Here's what works for me. It's part of a 2 part system and intended as a stand alone just incase I am separated from my main pack. It also along the lines of a belt bob as described in this thread. I tend to repeat carry some items cause it just me feel more comfortable and I don't mind a little extra weight. Actually I'll even throw this on when walking on my treadmill just to stay used to the weight so when out camping or hiking with the family the weight of a pack doesn't effect me at all. It's what works for and might not be for everyone but that's what I only find cool about putting these kits together: finding out what works for u and always being able to change it up if you find something that works better. Again this is not my main pack. Any suggestions are always appreciated:)

I don't think anyone has mentioned a small container of Vaseline and cotton balls. A small amount of vaseline can be put on the cotton ball and it will ignite quickly with a match or sparks.

Good lube in a pinch too...

Just sayin :D :D :D

I love my BOB/GHB...I know they should be two different bags but I've put enough in mine that it can handle whatever. I'll agree with those that have said a bag you pack is going to be location specific. There is a lot of common items though.

I use a Maxpedition Doppelduffel. Best bag for me! It's a bigger duffel but in 5 seconds it transforms into a hydration bladder ready pack. Comfy to!

Mine is lacking in several areas like food and water, but if the SHTF around me, there are plenty of water sources so filtration should do just fine.

I have a ton of stuff in there but I'll cover the main items...

Defense- Draco, G19, 33rd mag, 2- 17rd mags, different holsters. (They don't weight much and only take a little room.

Blades- SRK (Most likely will be replaced with my BJ), Izula

Fire Starting- Lighter, Firesteel, Fresnel, Matches

Medical- Trauma bag, meds

Misc- 100' 550 Cord, M3 light, Generic LED light, EMS Badge/ID, Contact Solution/Case/Glasses, Reflective Vest, Spare Batteries, Sewing Kit

Starting to build 3 kits.

Weapon - Chest rig, separate soft armor carrier, soft rifle bag/carrier

Bug out on foot - Maxped vulture 2 + something small I can attach to mag carrier for scavenging.

Bug out in car - Both of the above plus .50cal ammo cans full of peripheral accoutrements + clothes + excessive grooming stuff.

I have 4 of these bags... all with slightly different, but essentially the same, stuff.

Here's my Go-bag... everything should be visible. 10 day supply of food, fire steel, 3 lighters, survival guide, string, para-cord, 3 different purpose knives, multitool, Head-Lamp flashlight, hand powered flashlight/radio, mess kit for cooking/boiling water, Water storage bag, waterproof storage for matches, lighters and fire steel, mylar blanket, signaling mirror, frog/fish spear head, and 80 foot of coiled wire.... best i can figure, this kit is sufficient to keep me alive in the woods (uncomfortably) indefinitely.

This kit does not show my firearms. I will be armed with a BARE MINIMUM of a Glock 22 (.40 cal) and a Browning .308 rifle with 100 rounds each. Depending on the situation, i have heavier firearms avaliable.

I'd DEFINITELY prefer to "Bug In" as i have a 6 month supply of food, a solar panel rig, and a much better set of gear than i could easily carry, but if time comes to head for the hills, i'm ready

Thanks for bringing this post back up! I am sure there is alot of people who didn't see it before and have things to add!

This makes me feel really unprepared if something catastrophic were to happen. There are a lot of great ideas here. I think I'm going to start building a Bug Out Bag pretty soon.
