B111 vs burr king question

I totally agree with 2 hp. Had I known I'd be able to bog down the 1.5, I'd have just sprung the extra couple hundred bucks for more power. I think 3 hp wouldn't be too much.

It would be nice to have multiple grinders set up for specific tasks, and a Burr King with a flat platen sounds like a cat's meow. But I suppose if I ever do buy another machine it'll be a KMG with a minimum of 2 hp, and preferably I'd go 3 just for tapering those tangs...

Next up on my list is going to be that nice big tool rest from Rob; I'm still using the little one I got with the BIII and from all the discussion around that lately I'm convinced I need a nice big one.

Has anyone made any conversions off a BIII tool bar? I'd like to see how it might work so I could build my own tool rest if anyone's figured that out yet.

I have them both, and Love'em!

Burr King. Ultra smooth

Bader III fast change out

The one thing not mentioned here, is that the B-III will run a lot faster when flat grinding since the power wheel is independ of the grinding wheel. The Burr King is SLOW in flat grinding. The Bader will FLY!!

Love the look of the new control on yours. I think that is the shortest motor I have ever seen on one. Thing just keep getting more and more compact!

I have since added a second Burr-King once owned by Jim Pugh. A very fine variable model. ( The DC version), So I guess I'll have to pick up another B-III just to keep things even! LOL!!! I replaced the 2 hp, standard motor on the B-III with a 2 HP variable frequency drive unit. I really like this machine!

That Bee grinder is now available in 2 HP variable - and your dollar is wourth about $1.25!!

Theres probably a few places you can get it.

It is an awesome grinder! - from any standard of comparison.

Rob!

so far i've used the small wheel, flat platen, and contact wheel... quick to change and VFD is a beautiful feature..

i'm couldn't be happier.. its exactly what i needed.. i leaned right into the grind and i found the 1.5 hp was good.. it didn't slow down at all.. ... ground out 2 hunters in no time at all..

i've checked out the bee...i know of several makers with them... and i'd rather pay the exchange.. the bader fits my needs much much better..

it was a good to ask the people on the forums which to get.. .. there is some solid and valuable advice that came from it... which i really needed ... as i only have the bucks to take one shot at this... (after years of saving)

man, I just can't get over how cool it is..:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
