Bolo13 B13 13elieve it! Bolo has always been my first choice too!
 
13 13/16ths = 13.83" long blade to be longer than the 1311, Moabolo, TTKZ & KZ2
13/64" = .203" thick to be just a bit heavier, but not excessively so, yet plenty strong.
Bolo to lighten the middle and enhance that chopping sweet spot.

CBT is supposed to lighten without sacrificing strength... looks cool, especially on a recurve, and could help on thinner stock. The only downside is more cost, so what do you guys think?

I don't care about the price. I'll take it.

I'd still like a .187" version too. Light choppers are fun.
 
.187" smooth satin LE should weigh very similar to a .203" coated CG with CBT! :D
 
Pretty sure satin & cbt was a flatout no due to the time involved, so one or the other. That doesn't stop us from stripping them for a competition finish on our own. ;)

4. A name for us and maybe the blade(s) that could work in our favor to make the marketing of this idea an easy sell for the Bossman. I hear it's easier to paint a masterpiece on a blank canvas so let's dip our snouts in colorful ideas and make it happen! :thumbup:

I have been thinking a lot about #4 as a decent place to start, so here we go.

You guys have already done a great job taking off with the B = 13 idea and run with it, so let's see if we can improve on it. Here's my thought process on this. The Boss does a great job supporting the military, the best stories I have heard from older Hogs have confirmed that. The ARMY has MOS's (Military Occupational Specialties, a really fancy acronym way of saying coded job title) and one of those is thirteen bravo in militarese written simply as 13B. That MOS is a field artillery cannon crew member the last I knew which is perfect... after all, we are seeking the heavy hitter big gun of respirene-c INFI choppers. This made me think of a nickname as the crew wishing to wield this res-c heavy hitter being along the lines of the Res-C Artillery. Then I kept thinking...

Now we should not disrespect the soldiers in that job by taking the thirteen bravo title they are proud of, but try to borrow from it and honor it. If we split the difference between B13 and 13B, we come up with 1B3 which looks funny typed, but makes an interesting logo that plays on the B = 13 idea well. Here is my hand drawn concept to run by my hog brethren for yea let's build on that or nay. Keep in mind that I sketched this on the back of a receipt delivering gas to a truck stop then fell asleep last night before I could photoshop a nicer version last night so the quality is not great. If done right it could still read B13 by seeing the B before the 13 wrapped around it. That said I give you my crude concept for a logo:

Since some of us just want a Basic 13 similar to the 1311, some of us want a Bolo 13 different from any other res-c release yet, and some like me would love to see both, I took it a step further. After all, Res-C Artillery implies plural heavy hitters. Here is an even more crude two step expansion of my sketch as I dream:

My first thought of a Bolo 13 which is technically a B13 too, but could be a 1B3 to avoid confusion

But that only covers one version of ideally two designs, so furthering the sketch again to cover both a B13 and a 1B3 in one logo the bolo part could be dropped to have just the basic

For the record, I was not in the artillery, I just operated trucks & construction equipment during (and after) my time as a soldier, but support from 13B's was very much appreciated by those in need of it.

Nice job all around. It all sounds great.

I'm not picky. As long as it's Infi, 13"+, isn't too thick (preferably under 0.20"), and has a res C handle, I'm buying. All the rest sounds great as long as it doesn't hinder it making it to production. Might come across to far from "basic".

Love the idea of the uniform avatar. Hopefully, Jerry starts seeing these avatars everywhere and understands how serioius we are! Lol.
 
I'm perfectly fine without the cbt's if it gets in the way.

The bolo part I think is key to getting the chopping performance though due to geometry. It also allows for better ergonomics with less injury to the wrist. I've used a mojo, ttkz, kz2, and a recurve bwm with better chopping results than a straight blade of similar size/weight. It helps with brush clearing and swathing grass too.
 
13olo with or without cbt is good with me- and a +1 to the chopability of a bolo style

I just read all the 200+ posts and I must say it's awesome to see the enthusiasm, creativity and passion you guys have shown here.
I wish you the best of luck with getting your perfect B13! Definitely getting that bolo..

Is there anything else we can do to get the boss man's attention for this that hasn't been done already?
