B13

Hey Tim... I hope you don't mind me using your drawing as a baseline to come up with my version of a Dream Bolo13...

If you want, I'll delete it but I thought you'd get a kick out of this variant.;)

Not at all Stumpy, I would be all over that as I love harpoons too. I know that's just a quick edit to show the idea, so not criticizing, sharing a general observation. Usually the spine of a blank is ground down to expose the harpoon front instead of trying to add material on top, so one could easily be made that way, kinda like these two TB's demonstrate.

Welcome to the B13 thread Currawong! :D It's nice to see a lurker come out of the woodwork to express interest!

I might be interested, but only if it THINFI. The SYCO 1311 is aknowledged as a great chopper, and is only 3/16" thick. If the design is longer and with a broader blade, then it has to be made from thin stock or else the knife becomes too heavy for prolonged use. And the Basic handle offers less opportunity for blancing the blade mass against the handle mass.

The Basic 8 fan club had the advantage that at least Jerry had shown the design. And it still took 4 years to deliver. Has Jerry ever posted anywhere to hint or tease about the B13?

IMHO, it would be more realistic, and more cost effective, to ask for a true machete. 16 - 18" blade, made from 1/8" SR77, ResC handle.

But that's another thread.

Guy, we covered most of those realities a ways back already. I would love to see a machete too, but that won't be mixed up with this idea as those specs sound more like a Yard project.

No, Jerry has not shown any interest in this yet, but he has shown to listen to his customers in the past like any intelligent, successful manufacturer would. :) We are trying to gather support for these to actually happen as fast as possible to show Jerry how easy a Bolo13 would be to sell. Our maximum requested thickness is 13/64" or .203" including any coating for this INFI CHOPPER. Thinner is fine as long as the balance is right, we will trust Jerry to iron out the details for making it perfect, he is good at that.

We are just showing Jerry what over 50 people have already shown interest in, an improved INFI 1311. With the view count rising as fast as it is, I suspect there at least one or two lurkers for each poster that would buy stealthily. What we need for this to happen is to get them to come out and say so here so Jerry knows how many Hogs would be at the trough for this knife. If there are enough then maybe we can make Hog history getting this done, even if it is just a big group custom order and not a normal offering. Once there are blanks for it... all kinds of possibilities for custom variants like a thinner or tapered version or drop point or harpoon tip or swedge or whatever could show up at shows like your moustache 1311. ;) Positive support is what will get this done better than anything else, all we can do is try... so please help us! :D

I hear ya on the normal version of the harpoon tips Tim, but I intentionally raised the un-sharpened swedge on the version I modified to give more meat behind the sweet spot of the blade for chopping and for looks. I'm not a huge fan of removing spine material to get a harpoon tip as I think it makes the blade look too narrow and loses the nice lines. I'd rather see a raised swedge as part of the initial design as opposed to looking like an afterthought or a modification of a blade that had a hick-up during the finishing process and modified later by the custom shop to sell as a one off (genius business plan though... instead of a factory second it becomes an instant rarity).

The initial design you came up with has those sweet lines built in so I'd hate to see any of the material removed from the spine to take away from that.

That said... I'd like to see what Jerry's thoughts are about this blade style.;):D:thumbup:

For what it's worth, I would like to see (from scrapyard or swamp rat) this same design, stretched out several more inches, and thinned, with about a hand and a half length handle.

I admit I've been lurking since the start of this thread. I was hoping we'd have one already, but since there's no response yet I thought I better join in. 13ring it on!!

13ring on the 13olo!!!

How about either editing a first page post with some of the custom avatars made or at least a 1st page reference to the page number they're on. If we can get a good amount of hogs to toss the avatar on, this will spread like wildfire, as every post they've made will now market the 13olo.

Edit: Avatars currently listed on post 307

Good idea. I've tried like 12 times but I get error messages each time. That's what I get for not owning a P.c. I guess....

This one you can save with a .png file extension:

I'm not sure why tinypic lists them as .jpg as they are not, maybe that was something I did wrong uploading.

I updated my avatar. And check out my new sig.

Trying to get the word out! I'm doing my part, are you doing yours?

If we want this to happen, we need to put in the work!
