B890 question, about finish

howdy, all!
I just bought a couple of B890 striders. One tanto, One spearpoint. Here's my question.
Both of these came out of the box bone dry. My folding Buck striders had a bit of oil or grease on the blade, which made them a little nicer looking, in my view. Much shinier blades, witha more uniform black finish. Dry, my big striders have a splotchy, uneven looking finish to them. not very good looking, especially on brand new knives.
Does anyone know what sort of oil Buck coats the folder's blades with from the factory? I am referring to the black oxide finished blades.
These big 890's need something on the to make them a little prettier. I just don't know what to use, at this point.

If any of you have these Bucks, what do you use? how did yours arrive out of the box?

Thanks, Joseph

I've used regular gun stock oil lightly on the blade of my Strider. Or, piginacan fat residue from slicing of the same works. Just rub it in uniformly.

Yep Jim...none of my black Bucks were oiled either. I just know that I use light oil to dress 'em up. Kine like ArmorAll on a tire ;)

I actually have 3 of the folding oxide bladed buck striders. All three of them are liberally coated woth some sort of oil or preservative. All three of those look fantastic. that is what prompted my question.
maybe someone from buck could step up with an answer?

I used Burke's, Tetra, or whatever else. I have even just used 3in1 for a light coat for storage.
I think I will try ArmorAll now that I think of it.

My first Buck Strider is expected tomorrow. It's a new one, so I will be interested in seeing if it has goop on it. I'll report back here.

I do know that the 110 Damascus I received recently straight from Buck had oil on the entire blade. Very light.

Buckaholic,
I look forward to hearing how your Strider arrives. Which model did you get?

Hey rooikat...
I ordered a 889BK and thought it would be here yesterday :(
Will update ya when it lands.

Ira Wood just called.
The 889 is out of stock. Asked me if I would wait until their next shipment comes in something next week or the week after.
I said "no". She seemed surprised and asked "why?". I said that I can get 'em for about the same price on Eieio-Bay.
So, alas, no Buck Strider for Goose :( :grumpy:

Yes Jim...
But I have to cautious.
I'm travelling for work the first part of the week. Won't be able to catch the mail first!!!!

Was REALLY bummed about them taking three business days to tell me that they were out. Messes up the supply chain iffn ya know what I mean :grumpy:

I was told that we typically oil any of the knives that have g-10 handles. We have to oil the handle and we do the blade to.
I also heard that any black oxide blade will get oiled.
If it is bead blasted, or has a non g-10 handle, it does not get oiled unless the blade is B.O.
Hope this helps.

I've used Sentry Tuff Glide Cloth to wipe down the black blades and get the shiny even black finish. A plus is that the Tuff Glide dries and leaves the blade a nice even black

Cutter,
Thanks for the idea. I will try the tuf cloth later this morning. I have one that I routinely use on my carbon steel knives.

How'd it arrive?
It probably first went by truck to the airport, got on a plane, got on another truck or two, and was hand carried to my door by a federal employee that probably doesn't know the Pledge of Allegiance. And, it arrived with no oil :).
Dry as a rib bone my dawg's been chewing for a week.
It's a 889 rooikat and I am impressed.
