B890 question, about finish

I wonder if the oil Buck used on the 889 evaporates? Mine are both Idaho's with no sign of oil.
So I dabbed a drop of Hoppes #9 gun oil and swabbed with a tissue.... And it still doesn' t look like it ever had any oil on it.

But, the mystery to me is what is the empty hole in the left handle next to the bottom rivit pin. And why just on the left and not on both?

Larry, that's so you can throw some smaller gauge nylon rope or leather thong thru it for a lanyard. If it went through on both sides then it would interfere with the blade. Just a guess.

There is one thing that I like when I use it but annoys the sheet outta me when I don't. That's the checkered finish. Great for the grip but hurts like hell on the top of my ever so sensitive hand when it's clipped in my pocket and I'm digging for change to buy a Double Cheeseburger today.

Anyway, I LOVE this f'n (fantasticing) knife. I am wondering why I didn't get one sooner.

Thanks to TLC for his comparison pic that sold me on it. I always thought it would be too big to EDC, for me, as a folder.

I kinda thought that too....thin lanyard, but, the tip on the blade on the brown one closes a tad off center toward that hole. The tip on the OD falls dead center. Looks like plenty of room for a "through both sides hole" between that bottom rivet and top of the clip. Wonder why they didn't tap one there?

And,,there has been some conversation about beveling/sanding those edges a tad. I haven' t tried carrying one yet, But I can feel your pain....lol....

My first Buck Strider is expected tomorrow. It's a new one, so I will be interested in seeing if it has goop on it. I'll report back here.

After all this, I'm thinking, hey, "I got a 889 in the mail and Roo is yakking about a 890". What's an 890?" So, I look in the 2007 catalog.
Oh! DOH!!!!
All this time I thought we were talking BS "folders".
Well, IIRC, my 890 was also dry.

Glad to hear your 889 arrived Goose. I'd love a detailed review after you've carried it for a week or two.
