Baby CBK- My First JK Knife-W.I.P. DONE!

Why didn't you let John put scales on your knife? I take it you're going for a truly custom fit.

A lot of guys like to do their own handles, so I offer blade blanks and let them do the rest. I`ve seen sitflyer`s work in the Buck forum, very, very nice!

2 hours out in the shed, and it's now starting to feel pretty good in the hand...

now the hard part...waiting for the mailman. Got some pin stock on order and don't want to go any further till she's pinned up. Maybe I'll take some of the dust and some thin CA and fill in the little voids that Ionwood can have hidden in it...maybe I'll just leave 'em...

Thanks for the WIP on this. The pics really show your process well and will really help those of us who don't have as much experience with it.

I also like where this is heading, the handle and blade really flow nicely. It looks like that would be an awesome little skinning knife.

just found this thread. ironically enough, i was going to ask if you'd mind doing a WIP on this blade. i like how you contoured the blade end of the scales. looking forward to seeing this finished up.

nice job sitflyer. looking good.

:( no package today... still waiting for the pins.
But I did play with this little guy a bit. Cut up an old sheet into facecloth size rags, then went to town on this piece of pine. No hot spots were noticed at all!

I think this little CBK has a promising future as an EDC tool...

Looks good. Ironwood is my fav too. I've got one coming from John in ironwood next month. It is just beautiful.

Cool thread. I always enjoy WIP threads, really interesting to see how you reach the end goal. I especially like the little tips and trick you can pick up like using rubber cement to temporarily bond the two sides together for shaping.

Lots of inspiration here, now to find the time to do my own project...

boy...after seeing this again. i think i might order me a naked EDC CBK. really liking the blade shape ... and the handle shape.

Yesterday my pinstock arrived, so last night I finished 'er up :)
I'm with John, I think Ironwood is my new favorite, it is like magic when buffed up and the grain pops out showing all of the gold and other colors...

Pertinux asked how I got the handleshape in the "what traditional are you totin' thread", and basically I grasped the knife in hand when it was at this stage

and observed where my index figer fell on the handle, then took a 3/4 inch dowel with sandpaper glued to it and cut in a groove to match the angle my fingers gripped the handle at. Later I sanded the other surfaces to meet this groove, slowly and patiently till it felt good...

The extra sanding and buffing took that from awesome to outstanding.
