Back form my trip Pic Heavy

What is that tripod with the three layers of nylon that shows up in the camp picture? Looks like storage or shelves for something.

Looks like a good time although I think I would opt for my tent. :D

That is a course water filtration setup to take out large debris (I think).

yeah it is a water filter.... 3 bandannas
1 containing moss
another fine sand and gravel and the last charcoal

very cool trip. I really like your shelter. I really want to practice making those. Great work and it looks like you guys had a great time

Cool stuff. Thanks for sharing. The shelter is cool. Awesome that it kept you dry too. Looks like a great area.

That's great stuff man, thanks a bunch for lugging that camera with you! Nice job on the shelter build and it's cool that it was so waterproof for you. Seems like your choice of a machete works really well for you.

Now thats what i would cool an awsome trip... i like your water filter system... Just another reason to carry a few bandanas... So did you eat the turtle????

Sasha

We thought about eating the turtle...But he was small and we figured the boogers worth of meat on him wouldnt justify the waste of his life... But next year when he;s bigger all bets are off...LOL..Thanks for all the great feedback guys.

Awesome job on the shelter, campsite, foraging, etc.

Were there many other campers around? That general area can get a little busy at times.

Looks like a fabulous time!!! How did the kettle do in the fire? Was the ash able to come off, or is there a bag that came with it to keep the gunk off your funk after it was used in the fire?

Very cool post, John. Great thread

I like how you used a natural shelter over a tent, practicing shelter making is one of my favorite things to do out in the woods.

THanks for the Great comments guys.... The Kettle is a little blackened.. But not so bad.. I don't mind ( makes it look used.)

Theo, WHile there where allot of campers along the AT.. I camped far enough off, at the crest of a hill that the AT skirts the bottom of... so the only time I saw anyone was on my sojurns to the Lake..where there where 2 campsites....

Also I forgot to mention blades... My main blade for this trip was a Mora Lam #1 which I wore around my neck...
I also had my Brian Andrews Modified Ontario Machete..(that thing is insane) I beat it all weekend against all kinds of wood, Battoned with it and used it to pry bark of dead trees.. And the thing is still shaving sharp.

Thanks for the info. Just so you know I have that spot reserved (:D) Oct. 16 - 18th for what should be an interesting trip with toddlers

Wow pretty excellent trip. A whole spectrum of bushcraft ;) methods, almost too many to absorb at once: Shelter (cool), water filtration, cordage, food foraging, making potholders. Did you start the fire by primitive methods too?

Lots of great stuff there. The pictures of your hut before and after rain is a good visual lesson. Muchos kudos for actually staying in there during impending rain. I'd have probably made my way to one of those tents.
