Well allthough I am happy to be back with my family, I do miss being out there with the great guys at the Wilderness Learning Center. It is amazing how much you can learn in 1 week with propper instruction. I feel confident in my abilities with many aspects of the outdoors that I didn't even no about.
I finally got that coal with the bow drill after a few failed attempts in the spring, but here after seing Kevin do it and getting the personal instruction and motivation from Kevin, and the others I got it on my first attempt. We made cordage, fishing spears, traps, firebowls, gluesticks, shelters, just to name a few. We learned about so many useful plants and trees. I finally got propper instruction on how to use a map and compass.
There is just too many things to list. From building kits to use of the items in them, everything was taught and explained. We learned in the classroom, and when everyone understood we practiced in the field. This course was extremely well planned and excecuted with perfection. Even the nasty weather couldn't stop us. A couple of other great things about this course; the instructors are with you 24/7 they don't go home. So after dinner and even though the days lessons are technically over; you can ask questions and get help with anything you may need while sitting around the campfire.
The other thing is the food. I have heard of some nasty food getting served atr other schools, but at the W.L.C you get a home cooked meal every day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Aggie is an excellent cook, and extremely knowledgeable of the outdoors as well. Nothing beats the last dinner when you get Aggie's home made apple pie for desert!
If your thinking about taking a course like this, don't hesitate in booking this one.
Now here are some pics.
Where I will spend my nights. We got some nasty rain at night and I stayed bone dry. I don't think I will ever go back to a tent.
