Back Pocket Carry Question

Have carried occasionally in my back pocket for years. Only problem was wearing holes in pockets....

If you are concerned, I think keeping the knife in a leather sleeve works very well such as sold by KSF. That protects both the knife and the pocket. I personally would not want to carry my ivory without protection.

I've always carried my stockman in my left front pocket. Occasionally when I am kneeling or sitting while working on a pump, the front pocket isn't accessable to return the knife, so in the right rear (wallet) pocket it goes. Often as not I will miss it on the next jobsite and there it will be in my truck seat. So I try not to carry it in the back pocket.

Only knife I own back carry works for is my Opinel #8. I tried carrying my GEC Half-Congress and it would end up sliding sideways into my wallet. Worked better with my old leather tri-fold wallet, but my Flowfold bi-fold wallet is so slim.

I use my opinel no7 as my 'food knife' and carry it in my back pocket with my hanky. It stays vertical, and closed (I removed the lock, as crazy as that is), on the outside of my right pocket.

A lot of differing opinions and experiences. The overall tone for my main concern is that knife smoosh-age is unlikely. I just have so much stuff on me all the time. Winter is nice because of the extra pockets with a coat n all. But without a coat carrying a medium stockman(usually), and a pack of Camels in my left pocket and another mid sized knife(always), a lighter, a pen(clipped) and my phone in my right, a thin notebook in my left back and a thin card wallet in my right back.... I don't even know where I was going with that.... I have too much stuff in my pockets! Well putting a knife in my back pocket would certainly uncomplicated my front pockets to some degree.

The pocket sleeve should work for you. You may want to drop one knife. Over in the Becker forum, they are selling a Becker bag that I consider a bit too expensive, but it might actually work for you.

I can't give you much about damaging a knife in your back pocket since the only knife I carry is my Victorinox Cadet (it's kinda hard to damage an all metal knife). That said, from my experience, back pocket carry is one of the most comfortable places to carry. I don't feel it throughout the day since it's vertical beside my wallet. The only issue is when it falls horizontal in my pocket, which is just down right annoying.

I've tried it, but unless it's some small knife (peanut, Case pen, Schrade 33OT, White Owl, Conductor, etc.), it just feels clunky and shifts around too much. The small ones can go horizontal at the bottom of the pocket and I won't notice or be uncomfortable. Still, given the choice, I prefer watch pocket or right front.

Have carried a pretty big folder pretty much all summer back there for defense but nothing bad ever happened. As for damage to the knife I don't think anything happened but it was pretty beat so I'm not sure

I had a back doctor tell me that carrying things in your back pocket causes damage to the spine because of the way you adjust to it when you sit. Wont hurt the knife though.

I dispose I'm kinda paranoid. I keep thinking I'm gonna get jumped every summer so I always have my knives razor sharp and always take either that one or my gerber fast draw wherever I go. I've gotten in trouble with it though and have to keep my collecting a secret now. On the upside my town has 8000 people and our last murder was a couple years ago. So these kids break into this guys house and the guy drags them into his basement and shoots them. I apologize if my behavior seems trollish. I assure you I'm not trying to be

Lost a favorite knife of mine because seam pulled out stitching and let gravity take it away. I am an automotive tech getting in and out of cars all day so maybe that caused accelerated wear? Back pocket but was not next to wallet but opposite side.

I can't stand even carrying a wallet in my back pocket. Lfp for me.

Two only slightly off topic thoughts. I switched to a Saddleback leather front pocket wallet a little bit ago and LOVE it. I couldn't imagine going back to a regular wallet again. Second, I too love 5.11 pants. I have tac-lite pants on now and have tac-lite ems pants for work. Great pants and other gear. Expensive, but they last and look good forever.

Long ago I carried my Buck 301 right next to my wallet in the left backpocket of my jeans - never liked carrying that way and changed to my left front pocket. OH
I was going to say the same thing. In the 70's while in the Marines, I carried a thin Gerber sportsman lockblade the same way. It was much lighter than the Buck. Some people carried a razor in the shoe.
