Back Pocket Sheaths

Hi Ron,
I apologize for the late reply but received the Back Pocket Sheath this Friday the 22nd. I like it a lot but have a suggestion.

I think that maybe these might be better suited for back pocket carry if made from stiffer leather. They wouldn't have to be thick leather but stiff leather.

If stiffer leather was utilized, the sheath could be slid into the back pocket easier.

Now don't get me wrong, Ron uses quality leather for these and they are nice. This is just a suggestion.

By the way, I'm using this large Back Pocket Sheath for an all stainless Spyderco Police that I removed the clip from and it fits the sheath almost perfectly. It is comfortable to carry in the back pocket with Ron's sheath.

To keep the knife from shifting around in the sheath when in the back pocket, I added a stainless snap to it. Here's a picture:

This is entirely my preference and you may like Ron's sheath just the way it is. I hope you don't mind me mangling your sheath Ron! :) Ron is a great guy and his work is very good! I'm glad I got this BPS and thanks Ron and thank you for the "surprise". You're a good man and make good products!

Hi Gene,

I'm not really sure that this discussion is appropriate for this thread since it's a "sale" thread but since some points were brought up I just want to address a few.

When I first contacted Ron to make these up at my request, the idea was to act as a supple "pocket protector" which would keep the knife vertical in my pocket, keep the knife from poking through the seams or material of the pocket, and allow for the knife to be retrieved from the pocket without having to take out or remove a sheath. (Just reach in with your fingers and retrieve the knife.)

The sheathes that Ron created were exactly what I had in mind to fit the back pocket of my jeans or the front pocket of jeans or shorts.

I have both a firmer and a softer leather version and both work admirably but naturally what works best for me is not necessarily what's best for everyone.

Just wanted it on record that these were originally made as a lark since Ron originally didn't think the idea had great merit (as I recall). ;)

Anyway, I've been using the two I have daily since I got 'em and they work great for their intended purpose.

And it's good to see you here, Gene. Been a long time since we've been in touch.:cool:

Hi Elliott,
Yeah, long time, no type and thanks! :) First off, I sure hope my post didn't come across in any way as a critique of Ron or his work, it was just a simple suggestion.

I like the BPH and am using it everyday. I understand what you're saying about it protecting the pocket and keeping the knife available for easy withdrawal. I just think that a stiffer leather might make the withdrawal a little easier and the snap wouldn't be neccesary, (for ME!). :) Maybe I'll have to order another one!

I added the snap because I'm carrying a large knife and it helps keep it in an upright position and unsnapping it has proven no problem for me without removing it from the pocket and anyway, I can always leave it unsnapped. If I was a "tactical" sort of guy and needed my knife withdrawn instantly, it wouldn't be such a good idea but I'm not tactical in any sort of way.

We're all different and what works for me may not work for someone else and that's what makes the world go round. Nice to hear from you Elliott and thanks for posting and coming up with this idea and thanks again Ron.

Hey guys, my egos not that big.:) I have no problems with critiques and suggestions.

As Blues said, I rather made them from his early suggestions. But thats one good thing about my little shop, if a guy wants one out of 8 ounce leather special order, aint no big thing, just let me know.:)

yeah Dirk I finally started hanging around this place. Hows things down under?

Ron

I just got my 4 'Cutter's Cases' in the mail today and three of them were filled straight out of the package. They are exactly what I was looking for with the nicer folders I've been picking up and I'm sure I'll be getting a few more. At least a large one since my Green Bone EDC from Patrick Randall is a bit more stout that the medium size. A great deal and a perfect way to protect a fine knife. Thanks Ron.
