Backpack Fishing Pole

I dont know if they still do it, but "Shakespeare"-[I think thats who makes them]- used to replace any broken Ugly Stik free. I've got 4 or 5 in different sizes and the only way I've broken one was by slamming it in the car trunk lid. I told them what happened and they still replaced it!--KV

I am looking for one as well. I want a really nice 2 piece rod. I am planning on building a holder for fishing trips out of PVC. Can anyone suggest something good? Looking to keep it near $100.

I saw that Ugly stick now makes an ice fishing rod. Would be pretty darn cool to have one of those.

There are a lot of small ponds up the canyons here in central Utah and I think a small rod like that would be perfect. They seem easy to carry and don't take up much room. Last paycheck I picked up a small tackle box, some hooks weights and spinners. Next check I hope to get the Rod.

I picked up a 6.5 foot light action Browning rod and reel at Bass Pro this past weekend. It breaks down into five sections. Comes in a small case that has a hard section to protect the rods. Spooled it with some 6 lb Suffix elite. Im ready .

I bought a fenwick break down rod for this same thing, its a 7 ft'er but a great graphite rod. i put a nice little shimano light weight spinning reel with it for about 100 dollars total. its a great set up

I have a 4 footer that I attach to my CamelBak MULE with some S-biners for when I go to my favorite park/fishing hole. It works great even though I had to tape it back together.

I keep a Emmrod in my kit for my jeep. so far its not to bad ive caught bass and trout with it. its rated up to a 20lb fish to!

The little telescopic ones work fine for shore fishing, they're cheap too.

Instead of getting an Uglystick ice fishing rod, I've desided to get one of their larger models. Bought some PVC pipe and fittings the other day and made a case for my rod that I have yet to buy. LOL!! Got everything but the pole. :p

I looked around, and am intrigued by the Emmrods also. Here is some info (there are more if you search youtube):

I know it sounds lame - but I just bring along my 5 year old son's "Go Diego GO" diminutive 3" zebco floating fishing pole - you can stash it alongside your pack lside lashing or side pocket fully rigged - some x-tra tackle/mini-bobbers in a baggie & dig up a worm and you are ready to go fih!. You'd be surprised how far I can cast it - plus If I have the little man along he gets to fish;)...

hey I usually have a GLOCK 27 and a BK7 so I could care what people think about my $11 pole.

Then you won't mind when I say that I think that is a pretty cool option. Not having children yet, that wouldn't have even occurred to me. Thanks.

Can be fished at either 7ft long or 8ft long, 10-30gr casting weight

7'10" 4/5 weight fly rod

6ft ultra light, 0.8-4gr casting weight

The ultra light rod is one of my favorite because of its versatility.

Hey thanks. It occured to me how much easier it was when I was packing a regular rod (broken down into sections) & the kid's floating rod how much easier it was not to have to set up and rig the regular rod - so for trips where I backpack and expect fishing, I just bring the kid pole along now. I have caught plenty of bluegills, panfish and even a few bass with it so it is up to the task of survival fishing.

Plus the "floating handle" works and adds in gear retention where survival is concerned. or, where your 5-yr-old chucks it in the drink! ;)
