Backpack Fishing Pole

Well, I tried an Emmrod (the original Packer) many moons ago and was really impressed with the design, stout build and flexibility; I now own two others.

The fly rod is my favorite for most of my mountain stream trout fishing…I just love angling into hard access holes where your casting is very limited.

One of their smallest (I think their new “Combat Rod” is now their smallest) is the Pack-Rod which has become my most versatile packing rod. I’m still trying to find the right reel and tackle for most of the fishing I do, but it telescopes down to a very small package:

They are definitely unique and effective, but the casting uses a different technique, especially your short range casting. Instead of flicking, you often have to get your whole body into it which takes some practice to maintain accuracy. They are a lot of fun, especially when you want a very compact package or you’re going to be fishing in some very tight spots.

Thats neat
I like that upside down spincaster. Is that one a Zebco?

Yeah, it is, but it's a little hard on this set up with light weight lures. I still need to practice with it before I try a more traditional one.

Hi all,

Glad to see some of your using the Emmrod pole/s. I have the packrod and love it.

They are so easy to use and pack.

Monday I am going to order another one.
This time the packer with a 8 coil rod and then a extra with the 4 coil rod.

These are excellent rods.

another vote for the Emmrods.

I'm thinking about getting a Pocket Fisherman myself, for my pack. Just learned recently, that they still make them. I had one as a kid, probably about 37 years ago, and hauled in a 4-5 lb carp out of a creek with it.

Haha, still about the same price:

I love me some fishing! I've got plenty of nice & expensive rods, reels, & tack, but the protein shot kit similar to the one pictured here by Rock is about all I take when camping. As long as the line's strong enough, I can bring in a whale! Weighs all of maybe 5 oz?

A couple of Beckerheads have Emrods and like them. I have thought about getting one, but I use the St. Croix PS60LF4 "Traveler" rod.
