Well, aside from the damage to my wallet, knife addiction is not so bad :o
I saw this really cool little knife that Ray made a while ago, but it got snapped up quick by matthewdanger.

Fast forward to this year, Ray was accepting orders a few at a time, and I got in :D I asked him to make basically the same knife, with just a couple minor tweaks. He made two for me to choose from! Talk about a tough choice. I chose the bottom one, and it should be in my hand by next week. He is also using Kydex now, and these sheaths came out real nice. I plan on mounting it to my pack strap

Good lookin piece of steel bro. I like the handle, It looks like it really fills up the hand.

I think I would have gone for the top one because I suspect that little kick at the heel of the blade would be better for food prep. I think I also prefer the integral guard on the original, but that's pedantry. I've admired everything of his I've seen.

Great looking knife T. What are the specs?

Looks to be a hidden tang?

Congrats.

right on T... you're going to love it.. i really like ray's work... i had one a while back, but guess who it went to, that's right matthewdanger..:D

Ah, Mathew is the great black hole of Laconico's :) I've seen his pics of the ones he has and am jealous.

Specs: 3 1/12" blade, 3/16ths, O1 steel, hidden tang. Stout for sure, but still should slice nicely with the high flat grind.

Very nice. I am always looking for smaller fixed blades for backpacking duties. Can I ask what the price tag was?

Same here. But by trying to get that one perfect backpacking knife, I end up with several! I'll have my NWA on my belt, Laconico on my pack strap and who knows what else, lol. ;)

Yes I am! Ray is a good friend and very talented maker of sharp things that look great and perform great.

Nice! Mine is 1095 with a leather sheath. O1 should be a great fit for a knife like this.

Ray has a promising career in kydex bending! That sheath is awesome.

You know that first picture was my first Laconico... I'm getting all misty. :)

tknife, you seriously have got to stop posting stuff! Everything I see I want...

I need to stay out of the forums myself. So many great makers, and no control on my part = bad combination!

matthew, if you have any more action shots of yours, I'd love to see them

Wow Thane, tough choice those are both awesome blades.

Nice job Ray, really top notch!

John

I don't have any action shots but there is some more patina since that last pic. I may try to take some this weekend.

I am up to 7 Laconicos and I am already scheming on the next one! I need to sell some other knives though.

Tknife, wait until you see the framed tang construction that Ray uses on this model. It is slick. I would have picked the bottom one too.

I just thought of something else, you guys ought to contact Ray FAST because that other one may be available!

You know, attention to detail is one of those qualities I love in a knifemaker... Notice the flathead screws in the upper portion of the sheath. They're both aligned perfectly horizontally. Nothing huge, but thats a guy who takes great pride in his work. Nice knife t!

Here's an in sheath shot. I'm really digging the squared off kydex, it should fit great on a pack, or my belt for that matter.
