Sasha lets go hike sometime, I am doing San Gorgonio 11,??? feet, this weekend. Where you going in the Sierras?

For a knife i would bring only a Mora 510 its sort of rough but i just put a great edge on it. Been thinking about the bushman.. But im not sure how much weight i got yet.. I think i got way too much food on me.. Two books camera ( so expect lots of pics ) Not sure about the tripod yet..
Bear im going to start from lone pine area. Go over the cottonwood pass. Then back down and all the way to rocky basin lakes. Stay there for how ever long mostly chilling and taking pics. Im going for a week long.. I know im going to need to cut some weight off my back. Cottonwood pass is at 11.980ft or so. Most of the hike is UP a mountain or DOWN a mountain and those are not Santa Monica mountains lol.. As for a hike just let me know im all up for it Would be great to meet ya ..

Thanks guys.. That Mora has a part broken handle from me being too rough on it sometimes.. But the blade is perfect..
Bear i love that area, Most people dont go over the cottonwood pass so you dont see many and its same as being the only person on earth... I been looking at your set up but got to work my self more on the ultralight.. main problem i sleep cold at night and during the day im always hot..

sasha, you could rehandle it in some nice wood, or i'm sure you could get ilbruche to do it for you...

i would suggest a fiskars slide saw just for the sake of having it...a few ounces can be worth it down the road...

I wanted to get a silky for the trip but never got to getting it. It would have been a great tool to have.. As for rehandle it i dont know i like how it looks now even if its a plastic handle.. I got some wood that i keep for that..Got no idea what it is but it grows here in SO CALI..

Sasha, have a great time. Looking forward to your return and I hope you get a truckload of photos and stories to share when you get back.

Have you hiked at that elevation before? If not, check out the signs of altitude sickness online and prepare for it. It's going to get cold up there and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you find or get snow on the trip. The bear are up and hungry, so if you don't have one, get yourself a bear vault for your food and hoist it into a tree, well away from and down wind of your camp.

Good choice on knife, but I'd suggest something to chop or saw with as well. Your local hardware store should have a slide blade Fiskars. Great little saw for $10.00 or so that they cost. You might want to take a good staff with you too. An invaluable tool on the trail.

I was just looking at a map yesterday, thinking that Rocky Basin Lakes might be worth checking out. Take lots of pics.

Hi Longbow i use two walking sticks and they make a huge diffrence. I have been to high altitude and got sick there more then once.. Something to do with low capacity lungs. I might just carry the bushman it got a great convex edge and hold it great. I hang the food about 200meters away and always carry something for the bears..
Lambertiana i got my camera ready and plan to take lots of pics.. Thats if i dont just sit there mezmaried with the view and forget to take pics.. It happened before.. there would be a full moon so i hope to take some good night pics..

Alone? yeeeeeks I shall never hike alone AGAIN :D

What food are you bringing and what quantity?

Good luck and have fun man.

Thanks guys i plane on having lots of fun.. Mostly reading take pics and hike to all the lakes in the area. I have what i think is too much dehdrated food.. I never made dehadrated food at home to take with me before and i got no idea how much is enough. The food is most of the weight right now.. You start with a chunk of meat, when you are done there is a very small piece left.. I guess i should take a pic of all the food i take and a list and post it up.. I cooked some of the food at home to see how it comes out.. Let me tell you its good..
