Backyard SURVIVE!n'

For simple maintenance i dont think it can be beaten. It is surprising how simple leather can touch up the edge so fast

The gerber/fiskars hatchets are awesome for the money and would compliment an S!K very well. The wetterlings stuff is also good if you like a traditional type of gear.

Know me pretty good. I do like the traditional stuff. However if I was to get a wetterlings I might as well splurge the extra $20 and get a GB. Lol. I may just hit the flea market this weekend if its not still under water. See if anyone got some old tools that could just be re worked.

Well I was hoping to get to add to the trophy room but I didn't get anything this morning. So since I was hunting my backyard figured this would be an appropriate place for these.

One of the several springs on the land is over flowing.

The dam is over flowing too. Lots of water no where for it to really go. And oddly enough the fog didn't seem to settle in the bottom like it usually does. The visibility was good from the stand to 200 yards.

The #8 sheath works great. Rides very nice. I like it better in the woods then the kydex, because it seems to make much less noise when bumping into brush and such.

Nice little hike for some coffee though. Don't get out often enough any more. Need to make a better habit to get out in the mornings. Its to damn pretty not too.

The last time I was in texas was less than a year ago, and there were still drought restrictions, It is crazy how much rain you guys have gotten since then...

Wow that's a lot of water. Your water table must be high up in that region.
Now I definitely have to grab one of those dangler sheaths for myself. I'm hoping I can get a lefty version in black.

Used the 3.5 to make feather sticks today for a fire and then roasted some hot dogs for the kids! Its a 20CV blade and i figured it wouldnt be shaving sharp when I tested it after all the whittling. Pushed a little too hard and it bit me! It was still very much shave sharp. I had a huge nest of dried grasses and it wasnt lighting with just the firesteel (kind of frustrating actually) so I used one of my waxed cotton balls. It took one measly strike on the steel to light the ball and then the rest started right up. I highly recommend making them and keeping them in your pack.

Forgot to add that i even battoned with the 3.5. The small split wood in the photo before I started the fire came from battoning with the 3.5. Didnt effect the edge at all.

I got te fire pit at lowes for $99.00 on sale. 4 pavers are set into the grass under it to prevent an ugly spot in the grass

That's a good deal! I was thinking about getting an old washing machine barrel and using that but this is a way better idea.

$100 bucks is definitely worth the memories. No TV's and a great spot to cook food that tastes great. I don't know if it's mental, but a hot dog or brat seems to better cooked over a wood fire.

It's been so long. My last place was high up on a hill and it was always windy so fires never happened. I'd rather hang out in a backyard than waste money at a bar.
