I had an experience recently that really ticked me off and I'd like to hear your opinion. I contacted a popular knife retailer to ask about a couple of hard to get knives. When I got them on the phone the guy I talked to laughed at me and treated me like I was some bum off the street asking about something I couldn't afford. I told him I new these knives were hard to get and wondered if I could be put on some list to be contacted if they came available,,again he laughed. Then he asks "Have you ever bought anything here before"? I answered no,,every time I find something I want it is typically already sold. He then tells me maybe it would be best if I just checked back as if since I hadn't purchased before I couldn't be added to some list that may or may not exist. I realize I haven't been around the knife community long and I realize I'm not on a first name basis around the knife community like a lot of folks are but how about a little common courtesy and respect. Well I may not know the secret handshake yet or carry the ultra secret knife collectors decoder ring but I do have cash and from now on I'll only give that cash to the businesses that treat me in a prompt, courteous, professional manner.

Rant mode off,
Phillip :)

NO ONE has to put up with poor service.NO ONE.
Spend your money elsewhere.
Keep looking. There are a lot of good internet dealers out there.

What poor luck that you ran into this dealer first. There are so many great and helpful dealers. Check this forum for favorable reviews as it may not be appropriate or fair for me to list only a couple. Several dealers have gotten knives for me without any prior business.

go to www.newgraham.com, mikes great, www.knifecenter.com, always have treated me in a respectful courteous manner, 1SKS usually is cool, www.knifeoutlet.com, always have been nice, and bayou lafourche (sp?) is great to deal w/also - i have dealt w/a lot of companies, and really, other than an incident or 2, have always been treated respectfully.

oh, all the above ship fast/stock a large # of knives/will tell ya ABOUT how long an item will take to get - if its too long for ya, cancel and try some other place.

and have never heard of any list ya can get on, other than that pesky listserve.net, which sucks, but have never heard of a list about available knives, guess that dont mean nothin' though

good luck

greg

Wow! I'd say this dealer is lucky you didn't mention his name! Maybe I've just been lucky so far, but I've yet to meet a knife dealer I didn't like. For the most part, "knife guys" are not only very professional and polite, but also GOOD people to begin with! Never had a dealer concerned about "prior business" unless he was just trying to give a spectacular deal for our first transaction.( that's a good thing). Most of these guys bend over backwards to make sure you're satisfied.

You are being far more long-suffering and polite about your experience with this knife dealer than I would be under the circumstances you described. The smuggness and almost terminal arrogance exhibited is breath-taking.

I agree with all of the posts that you have received in reply and only add that I have been well treated by all of the on-line dealers with whom I have done business as well as those with whom I have communicated but for one reason or another have been unable to complete a transaction. Unfailing dealer courtesy and consideration have been constants in my on-line buying experience.

I hope that your future dealer transactions are more pleasant. It is difficult to imagine shabbier treatment.

I have no idea how this post got in here, I hadn't even read this thread till this morning??????? Sorry about that...

Phillip,

I wish you'd let us know who that dealer is. Could save some of us a bad experience in the future.
Personally, I'd rather not deal with someone with such a bad attitude.

I think is post is aimed at me. but let me say thier are 2 sides to every story. I remenber the call I did not act like you were some "bum off the street".Has thier EVER been a bad post about me or my companies service? I asked if you had purchased anything from us befor because I like to be on a "first name" basis with my customers. some of the guys who posted on this thread are good friends and I know them on a first name basis. YOU TOOK THINGS WAY TOO SERIOUSLY!

Looks to me like there was a misunderstanding between Phillip and Josh... Happens all the time in conversations over the phone, where you can't see the body language/facial expressions that go with what's being said. At least that's the impression I'm having now.

First, let me say that I did not name any person or company for the simple reason that I new that these things could be misunderstandings. I simply wanted to determine if I should expect this or if this was an isolated incident. I believe I now have my answer.:(

Phillip

...if you didn't like the responses that you received, and regardless of what might've transpired during the phone conversation...then take your business elsewhere.

That said, everyone eventually has an 'off' day...sometimes people are irritable, and other times humor is misconstrued as flippancy...

The bottom line is, let your wallet do the talking. ;)

From the sound of your post, your attitude hasn't improved much. Looks like you've got that "bad" post after all.

The bottom line is, let your wallet do the talking.

Right on the money!

:footinmou.Dude this is crap:barf:. If you asked anyone to have Ryans their going to laugh. And why should he put you on a list if one came in, would that be fair to all the other people that want one, because if he did it for you then he would have to do it for everone else. Josh is a very out going cool guy, and you just assumed that he meant bad by it (laughing. Money isnt the issue. I know Josh pretty well and I know if I called him up right now and asked to be put on a list hed laugh. So I dont get why your in here trying to ruin his name (and TADs name), with out any soild proof of him treating you bad. I could understand if he told you to F**k off, but he didnt. And why is it everone elses problem that stuff is already sold when you get to it, that why man people stay up till 2am, to wait for something to get posted. So just try and work it out with the person before you assume something next time.

Thanks, Matt

Like I said,,I didn't name any person or company, nor did I plan to. I was giving the benefit of the doubt by asking if this was common or if it was just a fluke. And how the hell is anyone supposed to know if waiting lists are used if they don't ask?? This has gotten plain ridiculous. Here is the proper response for anyone who gives a sh*t.

(via e-mail so as not to put ones foot in ones mouth}

Sir, I believe you might be refering to me in your post. If so, please allow me to apologize for any misunderstanding that may have occured, no offense was intended. We at company xxx appreciate your business and hope that we will be able to serve your needs in the future.

Instead,,, it's my fault.

I asked if you had purchased anything from us befor because I like to be on a "first name" basis with my customers. some of the guys who posted on this thread are good friends and I know them on a first name basis. YOU TOOK THINGS WAY TOO SERIOUSLY!
Does this mean you will put him on the list? ;)

There is no fault here. You felt that you were treated poorly, and asked if this was the norm. Nothing more, nothing less.

Josh, and the fellows at TAD have done an outstanding job of taking care of their customer's needs, and are well thought of here.

But BFD. You weren't happy, and wanted to ask a simple question about CS, that's it.

Take your business elsewhere and you might have better luck. If your luck changes, that's a bonus. If not, look in the mirror and ask yourself why. (Another option is to give TAD another try)

Anyhoo, don't get bent, and don't listen to the background noise here...go with your gut.

It's your money, spend it where you want. Spend it where you feel comfortable.

Mel

p.s. We were all new to the knife hobby once, some of us very recently in fact... ;)

p.p.s. Loved your suggested response...had great CS today myself, I'm tickled.

Notdos/Phillip,

I totally understand you frustrations. A lot of knifeknuts are really hot on some makers works. And it is hard to find the piece you are looking for. As a collector I understand. I also know that there are a lot of people looking for this maker/makers works. A dealer may get a hundred calls a day about a particular piece. When that piece sold the first day it came on the site. I don't know of many dealers who have a list. If they kept one it would probably be quite long for a few particular makers. It gets hard to keep track.

I have done business with TAD. I can tell you they are top notch guys in every respect. Patrick, Josh and Evan know their customers. They keep the site up to date so you know when something is sold or not.

This was a case of misunderstanding. I do hope you can find the pieces you are looking for. Like I said there is probably a hundred other knifeknuts out there looking for the same pieces. I know I am usually one of them.

Dude this is crap. If you asked anyone to have Ryans their going to laugh. And why should he put you on a list if one came in, would that be fair to all the other people that want one, because if he did it for you then he would have to do it for everone else

Yeah, having knives sold the second they come in is bad business right?

Phillip, I wouldn't have known better either and I would have asked if thats what you were after. Laughing at a customer is BullSh-t! I think the company knows that hence the e-mail. All is well.

As for you Sniper, dude, no one mentioned a company name until you!! You must have a good relationship with this dealer and that great, but I imagine if you called up a dealer as a first time customer and they laughed at you and belitted you, you wouldn't justify it like you are now.

For what it's worth,,this issue was resolved a long time ago and was a simple mis-understanding.

Phillip:)
