Bad communication with GregB

GregB asked me to pick up a Dumpster Mutt for him last Friday. Said he'd even pay shipping. Friday rolls and I'm able to nap said knife. Got a sheath just in case. Leave him a pm (at Scrapyard forum) saying it's done and he has no obligation for the sheath. Hear nothing, but that's okay - it's the weekend.

Log in here and see GregB has a post in the Knives - Want to Buy section asking for the same knife. I send him some more PM's which he reads (the magic of return receipts), but doesn't respond. No biggie because one of his computers is read only. And then he makes a 'never mind all set' comment which is kind of vague in his Want to Buy post here. If he can write a reply, he can write back to me, but has chosen not to.

Other folks have had great deals with him over here; he has great feedback in the GB&U section; but asking for help, taking me up on my offer to help, and then pretending he did no such thing has frustrated me very much. Unless you like having your favors treated like you didn't do them, I do not recommend dealing with GregB.

I have dealt with gregb and he was great. I suggest giving him a little leeway. There is probably a mix-up or a good reason for all this.

Thom has always been a straight shooter IMHO. I'm not sure what happened as Greg also has good dealings in the past. Perhaps GregB will be along to provide some details.

Folks,

I don't spend as much time in the yard as I do on BF. Thom had pm'd me at the yard, I'd visited it a couple of time since posting the "could some one help me out" thread, but never even thought to check my pm's until Thom posted here.

I emailed and apologized and said "yes, I want the DM where do I send the money", that was yesterday, which I'm guessing didn't get through. Today, I check and see there is a a pm in the yard "I'm warning everyone about you" so I email & pm here and there providing phone #'s and ask where to paypal or send money order, to which he replies "I already sold it". I appreciate that he was willing to snag one for me, I just wish he'd have been a little more patient in letting me get back to him.

Thom, I hope there are no hard feelings.

GregB

GregB,

I had sent you PM's here and at Scrapyardknives and wrote in your thread looking for a Dumpster Mutt. You wrote a "never mind" in that thread without answering my PM's here or there or explaining why the readers (including me) should "never mind."

If you hadn't written to anyone at all after I sent you the PM's, I would have assumed you were using your read-only computer and just couldn't get back to me, but that's not what happened. I can't discount the possibility you sent me emails, but I never received them and I check my spam folder regularly just in case. It wasn't until I decided the available evidence suggested you didn't want the knife that I sold it and posted my warning here that you've finally sent me replies here and Scrapyardknives.

It's not a patience thing, either. I'm holding onto a Dogfather for a guy who might not regain his financial footing for at least another year. You had the time and inclination to read my pm's and to post here at bfc, but no time to reply to me until after the fact. If that's not supposed to make me believe you were ignoring me, no one bothered to tell me.

Beyond all this, I'm told you were able to get a Dumpster Mutt elsewhere, I was able to unload the reserved Dumpster Mutt, and you and I know our methods of communication and commerce just don't mesh. So even though no one's happy, we all have happy knives in hand or on the way.

I feel that this should have been handled in PM's & email, which I attempted to do, within the space of a week, yet you chose to bring it to GBU. I personally think that was out of line.

GregB

I have been working on a DM trade deal with Greg all week. After he found out a friend had a DM for him that he did not know about, he still went through with our trade since I had so much time in hashing out the details, even though that would leave him with an extra. I thought that was a stand up thing to do.

I am sure your problem with him has to do with communication, not intent to leave you hanging.

GregB,

It wasn't until I started this thread that you chose to write back to me; I still don't have the emails you said you sent; and now that this thread exists, my personal messages at Scrapyard have all been answered and though you didn't answer my personal message here, you did send me one. Maybe you're not usually a personal message guy (even though my offer to help was on a public message at Scrapyard and your reply was in a personal message), so I posted - twice - in your WTB thread here at BFC. Again, no direct response to it until after I started this thread.

You were able to post in your WTB thread and update your sales thread and post over at some manufacturers' subforums, but your time and ability to type evaporated after reading my personal and public messages. How long was I supposed to wait when you were here at BFC posting away as though you were able to reply to messages? Having brought the matter to your attention privately and receiving no response (while you were posting publicly here), how long was I supposed to wait before airing my grievance?

Yesterday was the first time you pm'd me here. I replied today, attempted to reply yesterday. Just because someone is a little late getting back to you is no reason to question there reputation in an open forum. I only saw this thread after I went to check your reputation in GBU. I replied to this as soon as I saw it. I'm out until Wednesday morning. Have a Happy Easter.

I really don't want to take sides when I don't have a dog in this fight but from what I see, it is simply a communication problem. These things happen and they leave the other party thinking the worst.

Like I said, I have dealt with GregB and I would be surprised to find out that he did what Thrombrogan did in the way he said he did it.

I hope both of you guys patch this up and move on. It was a bad turn of events but I don't see any reason to place blaim.

Yesterday was the first time you pm'd me here.

Incorrect, sir. Wednesday (yesterday was Thursday) was when I first pm'd you here and Tuesday was the first time I contacted you here. During that time, you were able to conduct a successful trade with steelnut as well as post in other parts of BFC.

Bottom line is that your actions, your statements, and the statement of one of the guys vouching for your character indicate you had decided to leave me hanging and didn't want to be reminded until I reported you here. After that, it was a bunch of returned pm's, talk about an email you sent me 'the other day' (again, you may have, but it's not in my inbox or spam filter) and accusations that I've been impatient and was out of line. You dropped the ball and instead of owning up to it and moving forward, you've chosen to blame me.

Dude....you did not get screwed here.
Your acting like Mick Strider himself car jacked you!
Why don't you sell that knife for $110 and be glad he didn't take it?

imho if he picked up a knife for someone and once he had it in hand the other individual was slow to contact/ducking him, and he now has a knife he doesnt want, thats not cool at all imho, esp if thom was trying to do a favor.

the old saying "no good deed goes unpunished" comes to mind..........

perhaps i'm not understandfing something......?

I don't think Thom is upset about being stuck with an extra blade...

...but rather a feeling of lack of communication and perhaps feeling ignored after offering to help someone out.

Again, both gentlemen have good reps. Hopefully things will smoothe themselves out.

It seems to me like GregB probably asked several people to help him score a Dumpster Mutt so as to increase his chances of getting one.

Only problem with that is, when you ask someone to do you a hundred dollar favor and they accept you become obligated to make good your end.

I think Thom's right on this, if if I asked or someone volunteered to pick something up for me, I'd be checking with them asap, not buying one from some else.

HAHAHAHAHHAHA LOL that's the funniest thing I have read in a while...

Sorry, don't mean to detract from the dispute, I have had dealings with both and think highly of them both.
