I bought a Bradley mayhem from The Raven, (As he is known on Knifeforums)and the package (envelope)arrived empty with notes stamped damaged, contents empty on the front. I contacted Keith, and let him know, he said he would get back to me. He got back to me and wanted me to sign papers for his insurance claim, and to put me as the recipient of the refund if there was one. I requested that he just refund me the money, and have not heard back since. I filed with paypal, and hopefully this will be resolved no problem. Maybe it is misunderstanding, but I personally would have just refunded the money , and dealt with the claim myself. I'm just sorry this happened, but maybe it's reminder to make sure the things are packaged safely. It seems that I am stuck with the claim, the Postmaster in Amityville contacted me and said he already filed it, and the only way to process it was to fill out the forms. It looks like I'm stuck with the bill so to speak and gave him a no consequence loan that I may or may not get paid back.:(

This is something that should be able to be rectified through Paypal. Did you pay through your account, or did you use a credit card?

The seller should have immediately refunded you and then dealt with the insurance himself. What he is doing is BS, and if that is how he handles business, everyone should avoid buying anything from this person. He owes you either a knife or your money back. What happens if the insurance claim is rejected? He packages the knife poorly and then passes off the responsibility to you? Total garbage.

Hopefully you have sent him an email letting him know about this thread. I would like to know what his reasoning is for handling things the way he has.

well put and I agree!

I'll agree to all of the above. It should'ce been the seller's responsibility. Hope it works out for you, and promptly.

If you don't sign papers saying that the package arrived damaged and empty, he won't be able to file insurance claims on it. I don't think that's unreasonable for him to wait to refund you until he has your signed statement.

It sounds like the seller wants to make samhain73 the recipient of the insurance. To me that means that he wants to keep the money, not refund it. It would be good to hear from the other side of this deal. I have run into people that think it is okay to keep the money in this kind of situation, and that is just plain wrong.

Agreed 100%. It seems fairly stupid for a seller to "refund immediately", at least until all signed paperwork has been filed. Of course, Keith is the expert on all things...

My comments are based upon actually reading the original post.

That's total nonsense Keith. You are jumping the gun to denounce the seller. Maybe if you had a life and perhaps got out more often, you could gain more experience than just reading posts all day and night.

My "experience" if from having a buyer say he received the box stamped "contents empty". My postmater watched me fill out the claim paperwork and convinced me to change "payee" to the package receipient. She said that if the USPS proves the recipient is a scammer, the post office would come after me since I am the one that received the insurance claim. I didn't know my buyer and wasn't willing to take any chances. The buyer was paid in less than a month and when he bought from me again, I shipped before receiving payment. Luckily he didn't choose to have a meltdown and get folks north of the border excited over nothing.

There is some confusion here. The problem is not that the seller wants the buyer to sign some papers before refunding his money.

I sent picture of the empty envelope to him and told him I would sign the papers to help HIM get HIS refund, not take the load on myself, for an improperly packaged knife. I should have been refunded, and if he wanted me to do the paper work first he could have asked instead of announcing that I was to be the recipient of the postal refund not him. Seemingly he was not to be bothered financially. And as soon as I stated I was not comfortable with that arrangement, and requested a refund from HIM, he ceased contact with me. I'm my opinion, this is not taking responsibility for ones actions, and doing just enough to stop legal action. Seems mostly sad to me, and I wish it never happened to tell the truth.

Paypal said they cannot get involved in a case unless it is either Ebay, or an actual paypal accepting business, since they cannot prove the claim. Thats something to remember concerning Paypal.

What happens if the insurance claim is rejected?
This is a good question, the postal workers said that could be a possibility, since it was obviously packed poorly. But I do agree with "Whitey", although it's strange that he so defensive.... I think that it's a good idea to have the other person send proof first, and to agree to help with the claim. But, I did both as soon as it arrived.

See, that's just wrong. It's not your obligation to take the hit for a knife you paid for, and never received.

This is just one of the reasons that I don't use or except PAY POOP.

If you look at the Paypal Buyer Complaint Policy, it looks like it provides protection for items purchased outside of ebay. This looks like it would fall under the goods not received section of that policy.

I already contacted them, that how I learned of they're policy. They already turned me down. :(

Whitie, I don't know why you want to start with the personal attacks when I did not make any comments directed at you, but it is obvious that you didn't read what it was that Samhain posted. The problem doesn't have anything to do with the filling out of the proper paperwork. The problem is that the seller wants to make samhain the recipient of the insurance. That would mean the he has no intention of providing a refund even if the proper paperwork is filled out. So no, it isn't total nonsense. It is just having the intelligence to read and comprehend the original post.
