Bad deal elsewhere (Buyer beware)

I am constantly amazed about all the complaints about eBay and PayPal. I have been dealing with both for many years and never had a problem that wasn't resolved.

I read the PayPal policy and it seems reasonable to me. The item was shipped, therefore it is not PayPal's problem. If the item was not shipped, they would probably try to help you. You can whine all you want, but why should they pay for a USPS problem?

USPS, Fedex, UPS and DHL damage and lose stuff every day. They will try to get out of paying for the lost merchandise if they can. Your money will NOT be cheerfully refunded. You will probably have to fill out numerous forms and file complaints.

I have never lost anything in the mail, but UPS and Fedex have lost or damaged a number of things and they always reject the first claim. You just have to be patient and firm.

Paypal don't pay for anything, they take the money back from the seller.

This is hopeless.

It's real simple. If you don't like eBay or PayPal don't use them. Of course, then you would have to find something else to bitch about. Why is that so hard to understand?

UPDATE..No refund, PO denied the insurance claim, says it's NOT responsible for an improperly packaged item. So, I guess I got robbed.

While "robbed" isn't the exact word, it does suck, and TheRaven needs to refund every cent your out ASAP!!!!!!!!

PS: PLEASE post any and all names and e-mails and info' you have for this person, so future folks will know not to buy from him, since he is on other forums.

If a package is lost in the mail due to poor packing, you are not being "robbed", with criminal intent, you have sufferd a loss for sure that needs to be made good by the person who's fault it is, i.e. the seller.

There hasn't been a criminal act here, just a negligent one.

knives should definitely NOT be shipped in just an envelope. A corrugated box that is well sealed with tape is the way to go.

I only use PayPal with credit card as the source of funds. That way I have recourse. Here, the risk of loss was on the vendor under the UCC unless there was an express argeement to the contrary.

And Uffda, I would take your point EXCEPT Paypal uses the image that they will "protect" you as part of their sales pitch. Then there is the reality about what they actually will do.

Samhain73,
I didn't see an answer to the question of how you paid through PayPal. Excuse me if I am just blind and didn't see it, but if you paid with a Credit Card through PayPal, contact them. I learned through a similar similar situation that they are your best ally.

If you show them you paid for an item and never got it, they will reverse the charge from PayPal.

Good Luck,
Peter

You may be one of the minority when it comes to PayPal! All you have to do is research the huge lawsuit against them that was filed within the last couple years. I know quite a few sellers who at one time used PayPal but had serious issues with their policies. If there is something I want and it is stated PayPal Only, I ALWAYS pass.

Hi Guys .....I have used paypal to both buy and sell on ebay.

I clearly state as a condition of sale that the goods will be sent by Canada Post and that there will be no refund do to loss or damage in shipping without insurance. Also I set out that any claims re loss or damage will be handled by me forwarding the appropriate Canada Post claim forms to the purchaser for them to submit in their name as the aggrieved party. (This is to prevent false claims of not receiving the item which I had heard was not uncommon when shipping to some locales and was the only way I could see to protect myself and be up front).
I fully and truthfully describe the item and provide the best photo's I can.
MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL...I stipulate that if you are not prepared to accept this arrangement then DO NOT PURCHASE from me.
I then package the items in sturdy heavy-weight boxes, size appropriate and wrapped with so much packing tape it must really piss off the customs people and the buyer who will have a hell of a time getting into it.
(The only time I used u.p.s. they left a knife on the wrong door step for a week in a torrential down pour. The recipient said it was bone dry when he finally got it).

If there was an agreement similar to the one I use then I see no problem with the request by the seller. IF NOT, then the refund should have been immediate to the buyer! I have shipped all over the world using this method and been fortunate with no problems. 100% positive feedback and damn proud of it.

I hope this works out to your satisfaction Samhain

Samhain73, just curious, has TheRaven straightened this out?

I see he has been very active over on KF lately.
