Did a trade with this member. I sent him two perfect knives. The knife that he sent me had noticeable up and down blade play. I have tried emailing him and messaged the moderators. He had good feed back but my guess is once something went wrong he did not want to fix the problem. I guess I am stuck with the knife. Any ideas?

I did send him a message, shortly after you and I discussed the issue. It's sad to see that no reply has been seen yet. However, give it a little time, you never know what might be happening.

First of, what knife is it? Can the pivot be adjusted to fix it?
It has up and down play which means lock issue. It is a Brous Blades SSF

It is sad. I also think he just recently sold the knife I traded him.

A knife shouldn't be sold until both are sure the other is happy with the trade.
Hopefully they didn't sell it, and you can reverse the trade.

Did you let them know soon after you got it that you wasn't happy with it ?

Yes I emailed him the day it arrived. I said I was not happy and we need to reverse the trade. I got no response to emails or visitor messaging.

I have a 100% trade back guarantee, if either party is unhappy for any reason we reverse and pay our own shipping back. A trade is supposed to make both parties happy, and it is not done until that is accomplished in my opinion. I think that should be a rule. I would give it a little bit more time and see how he responds.

This sounds like a very simple and effective way to enter into trades. In fact, I would call this best practice in my view. The good thing here is that many of the long time members share in this idea and practice it. Some need to be reminded that the bottom line is satisfaction with the deal. I also agree that we might need to refine the trade rules to reflect this.

He should reverse the trade then.
He was sent a message by a Mod, so he should get in touch with you soon.
Hope you hear from them today.

Still have not heard from him even though he logged on yesterday. It seems that he is ignoring me and the moderators.

Sending a second message.
At this point, you should post details of the transaction. What did not appear right? What were you expecting?

This is how it has to work, it's not "yours" until your trade partner say's it's all good and that you are satisfied too. We have a good thing going on here at BF.

if you dont mind what two knifes did you trade him?? what knife did you get from him in the trade?? can we see pictures of all of the knifes in the trade please??

There is no excuse for him to ignore you and a Mod. I also noticed he was logged on here yesterday.

Lets hope this is not the knife you traded him. You described it as carried, and sharpened. He listed this one saying he hadn't carried it(didn't mention someone else had), and said the only reason he was calling it "like new" was because the edge had been polished. If it is your knife he did not describe it properly.

Not responding to a buyer/trader, or a Mod, should warrant a ban.
Lets hope he steps up today, takes the knife back, and sends you your knife back. Or pays you for it if he sold it.

I also sent him a PM this morning asking him to respond to this situation. He's reading his PM's right now so let's give him some time to respond. Hopefully he'll step up and make things right.

I find it a little suspect that thinkbigg made it a point in the Spyderco ad to mention it has no blade play but didn't do the same in the Brous ad. That would lead me to believe he purposely left that out of the ad.

As I said, details are necessary for this to be resolved. If no one is going to bother providing that much, then I do not see how there will be any way to resolve this. In addition, without both partys involved providing some effort, this will be a fruitless endeavor.

You have some options:

1- Reverse the trade, each of you pays your own shipping back. Done deal.
2- Send the knife in for warranty repair. Done deal.

This issue comes up every once in a while, and I agree, BF may benefit from a slight rule update regarding certain selling/trading practices. That said, every situation must be considered. I offer a 100% tradeback garauntee as well, HOWEVER, if the buyer's only reason for wanting to trade back is that after handling it, he changes his mind and doesn't like the knife that he traded for (buyer's/seller's remorse), then I will still offer a trade back, but the buyer must cover my monetary shipping loss. If some one describes an item perfectly, and the recipient gets exactly what they had expected prior to sale, the seller should not be held accountable, and put at a financial loss, simply because the buyer had a change of heart. Again, I'd still do the trade-back/refund, but only if the buyer covers my monetary shipping loss--a seller cannot control another person's indecisiveness, and I think it's within reason to assume most sellers wouldn't want to lose money if they've done nothing wrong.
Back to this issue... I'm interested to see how it turns out. It would be sad if some one who has been a member for that long, and enjoyed BF with the rest of us, simply went rotten and sold some one a lemon:thumbdn:.
