Bad deal with thinkbigg

I have bought a knife here and the member was wonderful. then I see post like this one and this is not the first post where they got ripe off in a trade and I wonder is it worth the risk?? I hope the best for you. the spiderco looked like a very nice knife.

There is a lot more to this summarization. You are neglecting the hundreds of transactions that go off perfectly without a problem every month. In this particular case, we have one person accusing another of misrepresentation, and no details on the transation beyond that. The other person refuses to confront the problem and make any effort to resolve matters.

I urge everyone to pursue transactions with members that have low or no feedback cautiously. There are some people that are not on the same wavelength as the rest of us in terms of how a deal should be done.
That is why we provide some general guidelines in the rules that attempt to help resolve any confusion and give an idea of what the expectations are. One way to be cautious is to not use Paypal Gift. It eliminates any and all recourse the buyer has if things do go wrong.

There is no excuse for him to ignore you and a Mod. I also noticed he was logged on here yesterday.

Lets hope this is not the knife you traded him. You described it as carried, and sharpened. He listed this one saying he hadn't carried it(didn't mention someone else had), and said the only reason he was calling it "like new" was because the edge had been polished. If it is your knife he did not describe it properly.

Not responding to a buyer/trader, or a Mod, should warrant a ban.
Lets hope he steps up today, takes the knife back, and sends you your knife back. Or pays you for it if he sold it.

That was the Spyderco that I sent him>

I have done many deals here and on an other forum and I have to say this is the first time that things did not go as they should. I have to say that most everyone here will try to make things right if things go wrong. It is a great place!

Sending a second message.
At this point, you should post details of the transaction. What did not appear right? What were you expecting?

I contacted thinkbigg on Jan 30 to see if he was interested in a trade for his Brous SSF. He said he would. He said the lock up was good and never mentioned any blade play issues in emails or in the ad that he posted. I want this issue to be resolved. As said earlier I gave full disclosure of what condition my knives were and he did not.

He should not have listed it knowing you wanted to reverse the trade because his knife had blade play. He also didn't describe the one he got from you properly, so I hope no one has bought it. He didn't mark it as sold, so maybe he still has it.

He was logged on again today around noon, so he has had time to come to this thread.

thinkbigg, you need to respond here.

I've had some PM communication with him, and he made it perfectly clear that he wants nothing to do with this thread. In a nutshell, he thinks this is a waste of time and energy. I'm consulting other mods and soliciting feedback, so we do not get accused of being "heavy handed" with this moving forward. I cannot tell you what will happen next, but this will be resolved sooner rather than later.

This issue comes up every once in a while, and I agree, BF may benefit from a slight rule update regarding certain selling/trading practices. That said, every situation must be considered. I offer a 100% tradeback garauntee as well, HOWEVER, if the buyer's only reason for wanting to trade back is that after handling it, he changes his mind and doesn't like the knife that he traded for (buyer's/seller's remorse), then I will still offer a trade back, but the buyer must cover my monetary shipping loss. If some one describes an item perfectly, and the recipient gets exactly what they had expected prior to sale, the seller should not be held accountable, and put at a financial loss, simply because the buyer had a change of heart. Again, I'd still do the trade-back/refund, but only if the buyer covers my monetary shipping loss--a seller cannot control another person's indecisiveness, and I think it's within reason to assume most sellers wouldn't want to lose money if they've done nothing wrong.
Back to this issue... I'm interested to see how it turns out. It would be sad if some one who has been a member for that long, and enjoyed BF with the rest of us, simply went rotten and sold some one a lemon:thumbdn:.

Traders/Trading -
Be honest and provide an accurate and detailed description of the item. Forgetting to mention defects, blemishes, or other problems is not acceptable. When in doubt, be pessimistic with your descriptions.
Provide as many photos as possible, in the best lighting possible. It's always nice to see what you are about to trade for.
If you choose not to use insurance to save money, any repercussions will fall on you (Shipper). Insurance is there to protect you, use it.
Package and ship your items in such a way that they are safe to handle, will not arrived damaged, and will reach their final destination intact.
Do NOT post cash value equivalents in your trade threads.
Communication is key, honor your word. If you say you will do something, then do it.

I think the rules are just fine the way they are.The last line is the key.

I think that this line says it best for my situation. What he did is not acceptable.

was his knife a name brand?? if so then why cant they just return it to the people that made it to get fixed??

Indeed, Jason is good people.I think he would take care of the OP...especially given the circumstances.

Maybe that will happen but that isn't the point here. The issue is both parties being satisfied before a deal is concluded. In this case, one party isn't satisfied and the other refuses to acknowledge or respond in any way.

I will be providing an update and conclusion to this matter shortly. I've discussed this with multiple mods and received much feedback on the subject. In short, it's saddening to see that some members pay for the privilege of doing business here and can't be bothered to follow up and be sure their transactions go well.

Update:

Unfortunately, thinkbigg didn't think too much about this thread, the condition of the knife he sent, or the fact that he had to waste his precious time and energy on a of us. He and I had some PM communication back and forth, and it deteriorated quickly. As a result of his unwillingness to even address the complaints, even to share his side od the story he is no longer a member here. The last thing we need on Bladeforums are people that sign up, sell knives, and try to screw people over.

He was asked nicely several times to make an apperance and share his side of the story. He refused, dropped some insults, and ultimately felt the rules did not apply to him. I'm sorry you got something not as described tapuout, but on the bright side, he won't do this to ayone else again on this site.

I'd recommend contacting Jason B and ask him nicely if he would fix your knife. I'm sure he will, as he is a member here.

You handled this perfectly Rev. We don't need people here that conduct business in this fashion.

Thanks Jason, I really wish this would have turned out different. But at the end of the day, Bladeforums is a better place for everyone.

Was watching this thread for the update, hoping things would go better for OP.. its too bad..

Rev,

Thanks for all the hard work and effort you put into making this part of the forum a better place for all of us.

You might not hear it often enough but we're glad your here looking out.

Too bad it had to end this way but no doubt the community is better without this person here.

Thanks!
