Hello,
I know all of you are probably going to get angry at me for this but i need to say this. I contacted Blade Hq with hopes of trading a knife with them, its a knife i took alot of pride in ironicly it was the Spyderco Pride I asked them to trade and not only did they insult the knife but also my inteligentes. This annoyed me because they went on Ebay and said its only worth 40$ well... that was an auction that was started 9 hours ago (at that time) and there was a reserve on at 150$. Ik you all are thinking the MSRP was 24$ but look at the Dodo the MSRP was 40$ and now the originals are going for 200-300$ He said i didnt know anything about knives (I am i knife maker-collecter-ADDICT) Surely i know more than some about knives. well i just needed to get that out there.
Thanks,
Nufdes

Most shops won't take anything on consignment that they don't expect to sell for at least $100. By the time they clean up, photograph, catalog, post and ship the knife, they just don't have enough profit in it to make the deal worth their time. Sentimental value doesn't equate to dollars.

One other point... While a product may sell on eBay for an exhorbitant amount, some shops don't want to get the reputation of being price gougers just because a product may be out of production and difficult to find. So the $25 Pride may be able to fetch $75+ on eBay, but a reputable shop wouldn't want to be seen charging that amount.

odd, bladehq folks have always been ultra polite to me, in emails and over the phone. in my book they are a good bunch. always did right by me.

Blade HQ is a class act. Why would you take it to them to trade? We have an Exchange that's free to trade to any member are your going to get more out of it because as fellow knife lovers we would value the knife higher than a retailer.

I understand sentimental value doesn't equate to dollars. And i also know they go for alot more on ebay, i dont care about the money but they could have been alittle more polite instead of insulting my inteleigents thats what im p!$$ed off about.

Do i have to be a paying memeber to do somthing like this? Where do i go to do this?

Sell it on ebay yourself then, or you can trade here, or you can a buy a membership and sell here since your such a knife collector/ADDICT.

If you go to a retailer to sell a gun or knife(or anything else) you won't get what an individual will pay you. They have to sell it and make a profit, and an idividual doesn't.

BladeHQ is as good as they get:thumbup:

BladeHQ has always been courteous and polite to me. They are pretty much my sole supplier for knives. I'm not saying you didn't have a bad experience or that you are being untruthful, but there are always two sides to a story. And so far, we've only heard one side.

I would have just listed the knife on the bay or amazon or list the item on the forum. Cut the middle man out and reap all the profits for yourself. Good luck. :)

I don't like Blade HQ either, but that is because they don't ship to New York State!
Considering the knives they have on their site I guess I consider that a good thing! I would probably be broke if they did!!

I can't tell if he's joking or not :/

More seriously, I don't know what you expected. Unless you have successfully traded with them before, it just doesn't seem profitable for most stores to take trades. First, they have to trust that you will even send in your end of the bargain. Then assess it to see if it actually in the condition you described, and they would probably clean it out/make sure no scratches, pocket lint, or anything. As others have mentioned, then it needs to be processed, photographed, entered into their website, a description of the knife typed up, and then they have to hope someone will want to buy it for the price they set.

The reality of the situation is, they would be getting the short end of the stick. You are attempting to trade with a reputable knife business. They have a reputation to uphold, and as such are a trusted dealer. You on the other hand, as far as they know, are trying to scam them for everything they've got. You don't have any customer reviews, you aren't rated on the BBB. Hell, even though I'm sure you had no intentions of scamming them, for every one of you, there would be, likely, 10 other guys trying to fleece them because hell, what do they have to lose. Bladehq doesn't have their own GBU, there is no website for them to blacklist you on. If you think about it, unless you are trading in person, it doesn't really make business sense to make a trade with some random guy on the internet, especially when they are already dealing with high volume buying and selling already. One Spyderco Pride isn't going to make them drop everything and throw money at you until they get it, I am sorry to say.

No reason to feel insulted if a knife dealer offers you an unacceptable price for something they have little or no interest in. It's not like they have a waiting list for that knife and sought you out to see if you were interested in selling. An easy sale generally does not fetch top price. Just wait to you see what the car dealer offers you in trade value for your high mileage spaceship.

"Insult my inteleigents (sic)" isn't information, it's hurt feelings, an expression of chest thumping and attempting to get even.

I don't expect to hear what the conversation was, we won't get it verbatim, and dragging it out of the OP hasn't helped their position in the past.

I'm listing this under "He called me a retard!" It's usually not the case, just one party thinking they got dissed because the other didn't kiss up and do exactly what they wanted. NOTE TO OP: if you plan to sell on a forum or Ebay, consider that the buyer might have the same point of view, and then you will need to deal with it, too.

Comes around, goes around.
